Steps to Transfer to AWC
We are pleased that you have chosen to transfer to AWC. These steps will help guide you through the process.

Get Admitted
Apply for admission. Visit AWC Admissions for more information: https://www.azwestern.edu/admissions
Activate Student Accounts
All communication regarding the evaluation of transfer credit will be through the official student email. Students will be notified via email of the results of the evaluation of transfer credit. Students will be directed to the Self-Service student portal to view and print an unofficial AWC transcript and/or request an official AWC transcript.
Meet with an AWC Academic Advisor
If attempting to register for courses for which a prerequisite was taken at another institution, students must obtain a signature from an Academic Advisor. Academic Advisors can confirm completion of the prerequisite courses through an unofficial copy of transcripts from the previous institution(s). Contact Advisement Services.
(*Non-degree-seeking students are not required to submit official transcripts. Advising can be conducted using unofficial transcripts.)
Register to AWC Credit Hours
Students must be registered to at least one course before an official evaluation of transfer credit can be started.
*As a new student at AWC, you must contact the AWC Transfer Center after completing your registration to initiate the evaluation process.

Transcripts
Send your official transcripts from all previously attended institutions. Transcripts must include the institution’s official seal and be sent directly from the original school to Arizona Western College (AWC).
You may submit your transcripts in one of the following ways:
- Electronically via Parchment or National Student Clearinghouse, by selecting Arizona Western College from the list of institutions when placing your transcript order.

- Institutional Evaluation of Credits: Request evaluation of credits from another accredited college or university to continue degree/certificate completion at Arizona Western College.

* Non-degree-seeking students are not required to complete these steps. Official transcripts may be referenced with an AWC Academic Advisor for registration.
* Once the student has completed all steps listed above, evaluating transcripts may take up to five weeks.
* The time frame for the evaluation process is subject to change during peak request periods. Review specific program admissions deadlines and processes to plan accordingly.
*As per AWC Policy, official transcripts submitted to AWC Center are deemed the property of AWC and cannot be returned to students or prospective students. Copies may be acquired from the AWC Transfer Center upon presentation of either an AWC ID or a government-issued ID.
All external credits evaluated and posted onto Arizona Western College transcripts are considered permanent records.
NOTE: Evaluations for students applying for Nursing, Radiology, Massage Therapy, or Fire Science may require more time to complete. Please submit transcripts as early as possible before applying to the program to ensure credits will be posted to the AWC transcript.
If a student does not agree with the initial evaluation, a re-evaluation request may be submitted by completing the Evaluation/Re-evaluation of Credits Request Form .
Students submitting a request for re-evaluation of credits, please provide course description/syllabus for courses needing a re-evaluation. Submit information to TransferCenter@azwestern.edu with your information (full name and AWC ID)
Students who disagree with the results of their re-evaluation and want to seek the petition process to have the Vice President of Learning Services review the evaluation, please complete the Instructional/Academic Concern form located as Report a Concern form under Student Conduct.
International Students Transferring to AWC
If you are an international student who needs to start the process of becoming an AWC student, please contact the International Office at (928) 344-7699 or visit the office in the 3C building.
Credit from Foreign Institutions
If you completed college or university coursework outside the United States and would like your credits evaluated, please follow all three steps below:
Submit the Online Evaluation/Re-evaluation of Credits Request Form
This form is required to begin the evaluation process.
Request a Course-by-Course Evaluation Report
Use one of the recommended foreign credential evaluation services listed below.
The report will determine the U.S. credit equivalency of your international coursework.
Provide a Course Syllabus or Course Description in English for EACH course
Submit supporting documentation for each course listed on your Course-by-Course Evaluation Report.

Credit for Prior Learning
Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) recognizes knowledge gained outside the traditional classroom—such as workplace training, military or law enforcement experience, professional certifications, or national standardized exams. Many of these experiences may be applied as college-level credit! Please follow the steps below to start a CPL Request.
For Standardized Examinations (AP/CIE/CLEP/DLPT/DSST/IB):

Policies and Procedures For Incoming Students
ACCEPTABLE EXTERNAL CREDITS
Arizona Western College accepts credits from institutions accredited by the six regional associations and by specialized accrediting bodies as listed by the Office of Postsecondary Education.

Arizona Western College does not accept transcripts/credits from the following online learning platforms or credit recommendation services:
- Sophia Learning
- ACE (American Council on Education)
- StraighterLine
- Study.com
- NCCRS (National College Credit Recommendation Services)
Students must complete 15 in-house credits for a degree and 6 for a certificate. Maximum transferable credits via exams/non-course work: 30. Total transfer credits applied vary by program.
Evaluation & Awarding of Courses
- Courses from accredited institutions are evaluated by content, goals, and outcomes.
- Developmental courses transfer only to meet next-level requirements.
- Only courses with a “C” or higher within 8 years are evaluated (except general education courses, which have no time limit). Older courses may require revalidation.
- Quarter-hour credits are converted to semester hours (1 quarter hour = 0.67 semester hours).
- External credits are permanent records.
- Standard lecture credit: 3 credits = 2400 minutes (40 hours) per semester.
Retention Policy
- Unprocessed external transcripts are kept for one year only; older records are not retained.
- Official transcripts submitted to AWC are the property of AWC and cannot be returned; copies can be requested with an AWC ID or government-issued ID.

- Provide Official transcripts from all previously attended institutions (foreign transcripts require certified English translations).

Credits from regionally accredited institutions are generally accepted. Courses are evaluated based on content, outcomes, grades and comparability to AWC courses. Use Transcript Evaluation System (TES) , AZTransfer, or Community College Course Equivalency Guide (CC-CEG) to preview equivalencies.
Official transcripts from all previously attended institutions are required. Foreign transcripts must go through one of the approved agencies. Non-degree-seeking students may use unofficial transcripts for advising.
Transfer evaluations typically take up to five weeks once all required documents are received. Certain programs, such as Nursing, Radiology, Massage Therapy, or Fire Science, may require more time.
No. AWC does not accept credits from Sophia Learning, ACE, StraighterLine, Study.com, or NCCRS.
There is no cap on the number of credits you may transfer; however, limits apply to how those credits can be applied toward your program:
- Degree Programs: At least 15 credits must be completed in-house. Up to 49 transfer credits may be applied.
- Certificate Programs: At least 6 credits must be completed in-house. The maximum number of transferable credits depends on the specific certificate requirements.
- Exams/Non-Course Options: A maximum of 30 credits may be earned through exams or other non-course alternatives.

However, there is a limitation on applicability:
