The HVAC Technician Level 2 Certificate builds upon the foundational skills developed in the HVAC Technician Apprenticeship and provides advanced training in the installation, diagnostics, and servicing of air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Students deepen their understanding of electrical controls, system performance, and advanced troubleshooting techniques used in residential and light commercial HVAC applications.

Program Purpose


Builds upon the foundational skills developed in the HVAC Technician Apprenticeship Level 1 certificate and provides advanced training in the installation, diagnostics, and servicing of air conditioning and refrigeration systems.

Learning Outcomes


Configure and troubleshoot complex electro-mechanical, solid-state, and digital control systems to optimize energy efficiency and performance in residential and commercial HVAC applications.

Analyze the principles of combustion, airflow, and heat transfer to safely diagnose, calibrate, and service gas, electric, and hydronic heating equipment.

Evaluate the mechanical and electrical operation of heat pump systems, including reversing valves and defrost control boards, to isolate and resolve complex heating cycle malfunctions.

Apply psychrometric principles and charting to evaluate air properties, calculate heating and cooling loads, and ensure the proper sizing and selection of advanced refrigeration equipment.

Execute comprehensive diagnostic procedures on multi-stage commercial air conditioning and refrigeration systems to isolate and repair advanced mechanical, electrical, and airflow faults
