The HVAC Technician Apprenticeship Level 1 prepares apprentices with the essential skills needed for careers in the air conditioning and refrigeration industry through a structured earn-while-you-learn model. Apprentices receive hands-on training and related classroom instruction in troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and servicing of HVAC systems, including electrical controls, motors, and refrigerant handling. The curriculum aligns with NCCER national industry standards, ensuring apprentices develop the technical knowledge and practical experience required for long-term success in the HVAC trade.

Program Purpose


Prepares apprentices with the essential skills needed for careers in the air conditioning and refrigeration industry through a structured earn-while-you-learn model.

Learning Outcomes


Apply OSHA standards and industry-specific safety protocols to identify workplace hazards, utilize proper personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a safe working environment in HVAC/R settings.

Analyze the principles of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and the mechanical refrigeration cycle to evaluate the performance of residential and commercial air conditioning and refrigeration systems.

Interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams to safely diagnose, test, and repair HVAC/R motors, control circuits, and associated electro-mechanical components.

Perform systematic diagnostic procedures using industry-standard tools and meters to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair mechanical and electrical faults in HVAC/R equipment.

Demonstrate technical proficiency in the installation, recovery, and servicing of air conditioning and refrigeration systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications and environmental regulations.
