This program is designed to prepare students for employment in the various areas of construction and technical instruction.

The high demand for trained construction workers makes this a wise career choice. Following a program of study in Construction Technologies can help a student build skills for a current job, earn a certificate to be competitive in a job search, or transfer on to a four-year degree.

These courses will be offered in short modules so you can take only the ones you need or the full component of classes to receive a certificate or a degree.

Fast Track Certificates
Some of the programs offer the opportunity to earn a certificate in less than six months enabling you to enter the workforce sooner and begin earning a steady income.

Traditional Certificates
Other certificates are following the more traditional college calendar. This option is perfect for those students who are working while going to school or taking other college level courses.

Associate in Applied Science Degrees (A.A.S.)
To further your earning potential—an A.A.S. is what you are looking for. Current offerings include Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Construction Management,  Automotive Technology and Welding.

Night Classes
Working students are welcome to enroll in these classes. Most are offered at a variety of times to accommodate any schedule.

Provides the student with the essential skills required for entry‐level employees in the air conditioning and refrigeration industry. Training in various aspects of air conditioning and refrigeration include trouble‐shooting, maintenance, repair and servicing of A/C units, related electrical controlling devices, motors, and safety factors concerning the use of various refrigerants. Program curriculum is aligned with National Center for Construction Education Research standardized national skills standards for the construction trades.

The AWC Automotive Technology facilities were completed renovated between 2011-2014, bringing modern standards and a bright, clean workspace to our classrooms and labs. These improvements, coupled with a robust advisory board help, plus scholarship support and vehicle donations the GM Test Facility out at YPG mean that our students learn on the best equipment to become employable in today’s workforce.

Successful completion of the required courses for this certificate signifies to potential or current employers that the student has completed the steps necessary in obtaining an entry level position as a general or specialized technician.

Courses in carpentry prepare the student for an entry level position in the construction industry. This program provides opportunities for students to learn construction technology used to erect, install and repair structures with modern construction materials and techniques. The program focuses on blueprint reading, construction project estimating, and safety practices.

Construction Management offers a course of study in areas related to regulatory safety requirements associated with construction and industrial site management, and the basics of the construction trades industry. The Associate of Applied Science degree prepares graduates in pre-architecture coursework, for transition to a university program.

Program curriculum is aligned with National Center for Construction Education Research standardized national skills standards for the construction trades.

At the Ernest Lopez Welding Institute at AWC, our students are making waves in our region, our state, and around the world. We have an active SkillsUSA (link to SkillsUSA) chapter that competes every year regionally and frequently sends students to national competition.

From 2012-2016, our facility went through extensive remodeling and expansion as part of the STEM Pipeline grant (link to this grant), and now our students get the benefit of state-of-the-art features like new welding booths, new fume extraction systems, robotics, a welding simulator, new classrooms, new bathrooms and storage, and more shade in the outdoor classroom.
