Basic Drywall Level 1 (Fast-Track)

This course equips learners with the foundational skills needed for safe, high‑quality drywall installation and finishing, including NCCER Core certification. Students will develop competency in materials, methods, thermal and moisture protection, installation, and finishing techniques to prepare for entry‐level work in the drywall trade. This course is available in both English.

What You'll Learn

Upon completion of the class students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate NCCER Core safety practices, tool use, and construction fundamentals. 

  • Identify the purpose, components, and professional expectations of the drywall trade. 

  • Recognize and use common drywall tools, materials, adhesives, and fasteners. 

  • Understand construction materials and methods for wood‑, steel‑, masonry‑, and concrete‑formed structures. 

  • Install thermal and moisture protection systems including insulation, vapor retarders, water‑resistive barriers, and air‑infiltration controls. 

  • Measure, cut, handle, and install gypsum board using industry‑standard techniques. 

  • Perform single‑ and multi‑ply gypsum board installations, including trim and specialty systems. 

  • Build fire‑rated and sound‑rated wall assemblies following correct installation procedures. 

  • Apply drywall finishing techniques at levels 0–5, including taping, bedding, topping, and sanding. 

  • Identify and repair common drywall issues such as compound defects, fastener pops, and surface damage.
