Steps to apply:

  1. COMPLETE an official application

    • Current AWC Students: Register and apply to be a tutor at Jobs for Matadors.

    • Non AWC Applicants: Create a profile and apply to be a tutor at Work at AWC.

  2. FILL OUT our supplemental questionnaire.

  3. EMAIL your current resume and unofficial transcript to success.center@azwestern.edu

  4. REQUEST a faculty recommendation from your most recent/ highest level of course completed in your content area.


Tutor qualifications:

ENGLISH/ WRITING TUTORS
  • Must have completed Eng 101 and Eng 102 with a grade of B or better
  • Must have overall minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must have a recommendation from instructor
  • Must be able to demonstrate good written and oral communication skills
MATH TUTORS:
  • Must have completed MAT 142 or MAT 151 or higher with a grade of B or better
  • Must have overall minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must have a recommendation from instructor
  • Must be able to demonstrate good oral communication skills
OTHER TUTORS:
  • Must be able to demonstrate good written and oral communication skills
  • Must have completed course to be tutored or higher with a grade of B or better
  • Must have overall minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must have recommendation from instructor

Arizona Western College offers a Tutor Training program which is certified through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). EDU 102 is a one credit, hybrid course that consists of specific learning modules and live workshops. This training program is designed to prepare tutors for working with students and is required of all new tutors.
