October 9, 2025AWC Continuing Education partners with AZ Community Tree Council to offer hands-on pre-employment training
Yuma, Ariz. (October 9, 2025) – Arizona Western College Continuing Education, in partnership with the Arizona Community Tree Council (ACTC), is now accepting applications for the Arizona Arboriculture Pre-Employment Program (AAPP), an 8-week paid training program designed to prepare young adults for careers in arboriculture and urban forestry.
Running from October 20 to December 18, this dynamic, hands-on training opportunity will offer students a unique blend of classroom instruction and field experience. Participants will gain valuable job-ready skills such as tree identification and maintenance, first aid and CPR training, and experiential learning guided by local arborist professionals, all while earning and preparing for future employment in a growing industry.
“It has been a pleasure partnering with the Arizona Arboriculture Pre-Employment Program, now in its third year with Arizona Western College Continuing Education,” shared AWC Corporate Training Specialist Lizbeth Hass. “Watching our students grow week by week and develop a deep understanding of arboriculture has been incredibly rewarding. This full scholarship certification offers a meaningful opportunity for young adults in our community to gain hands-on experience, mentorship, and career-ready skills in a growing industry.”
Students will earn $15/hour for 32 hours per week, receive safety equipment, certificate of attendance, travel assistance, and a $1,000 completion stipend. Graduates may also qualify for paid internships to continue building their skills.
“This program is more than just job training — it’s a pathway to a meaningful career in tree care and environmental stewardship,” said ACTC Executive Director Rebecca Lopez Clemence. “We’re excited to partner with AWC Continuing Education to bring this opportunity to our community.”
To be eligible for the program, students must be between the ages of 18 and 26, possess a high school diploma or GED, and be willing to commit to the full 8-week training in addition to the demands of the program.
