AWC hosts Catrinas and Catrines contest Oct. 30

Yuma, Ariz. (October 20, 2025) – On October 30, Arizona Western College invites the community to a Catrinas and Catrines contest in honor of Día de los Muertos.

Whether you are competing or simply want to celebrate Mexican tradition at this exciting competition, all are welcome to attend. The first place winner will be awarded $400, second place $300, third place $200, and People’s Choice $100.

“This competition is a joyful way for our community to honor tradition, showcase incredible talent, and bring to life the beauty of Catrinas and Catrines for all to enjoy,” shared Martha Cordova, Director of Transfer Services at AWC. 

The free event will be held from 3 - 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 30 in the 3C Breezeway of the AWC Yuma Campus. A campus map can be found here.

Contest participants must register before the event at this link and promptly check in at 2:30 p.m. in the Francis Morris Conference Room of the 3C Building.

The Day of the Dead celebration is hosted by AWC in collaboration with the Consulate of Mexico in Yuma and the Yuma County Arts and Cultural Group.
