Student Health and Wellness Department encourages campus to stay connected


Yuma, AZ (April 24, 2020) – During a time when students, staff, and faculty are being asked to stay home, the Arizona Western College Student Health and Wellness Department is encouraging the campus community to still stay connected.

"Due to the current national emergency situation, many of us have had to transition to online courses and working remotely from home, in addition to other immense changes in our lives and the difficulties and complications that result from doing so,” said Student Health and Wellness Coordinator Christine Rouff.

Radiologic Technology program to graduate students with honors


Yuma, AZ (April 23, 2020) – A group of 16 students will be graduating from the Radiologic Technology program at Arizona Western College this spring.

A number of those students will be recognized for their achievements during the program. All students will receive an AWC certificate of competition and awardees will receive plaques and their names will be placed on a permanent plaque on the wall of the Radiology Department at Yuma Regional Medical Center.

New VP of Learning Services named at Arizona Western College


Yuma, AZ (April 22, 2020) – Arizona Western College has named Dr. Diane Carrasco-Jaquez to the position of Vice President of Learning Services.

The Vice President of Learning Services is the Chief Academic Officer that oversees the scope, sequence, and integrity of academic programs at AWC. She is also responsible for creating and sustaining excellence in all aspects of educational offerings districtwide.

AWC to hold virtual commencement ceremony


Yuma, AZ (April 21, 2020) – Students who are graduating with their associate degree this spring are invited to participate in Arizona Western College’s virtual commencement festivities.

A commencement video celebrating this year’s graduates will be streamed on AWC’s Facebook page at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 15. Students and their families can also watch via AWC TV on cable channel 74 in Yuma or at azwestern.edu/live.

All summer classes to be offered online, registration now open


Yuma, AZ (April 20, 2020) – Arizona Western College will continue offering courses completely online during the upcoming summer semester. Students can begin registering now for summer classes.

“We have made the decision that all of our courses for the summer semester will be offered online. There will be no face-to-face classes conducted this summer. With all the information that we have, this was absolutely the most prudent call to make,” said Arizona Western College President Dr. Daniel Corr.

Student named 2020 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar


Yuma, AZ (March 26, 2020) – A student from Arizona Western College has recently been selected as a 2020 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar.

Abigail Emmons earned the honor based on her scores during the All-USA Academic Team competition, for which more than 2,000 applications were received this year. The program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and is administered by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

AWC Student Identified as COVID-19 Presumptive Positive


Yuma, AZ (March 24, 2020) – A recently confirmed presumptive positive case of COVID-19 in Yuma County is a Spring 2020 student at Arizona Western College.

The student has not been on an AWC campus or attended classes in person since the date of exposure to the illness, which was determined to have been March 14, after face-to-face classes were suspended.
