Additional Information and Resources

Human coronaviruses can cause lower-respiratory tract illnesses, such as pneumonia or bronchitis. In rare instances, these can lead to death. This is more common in people with cardiopulmonary disease, weakened immune systems, infants, and older adults.

Coronaviruses can be spread from person to person and are contracted through the air by coughing, sneezing, and close personal contact (e.g., touching, shaking hands, touching an object or surface with the virus on it, etc.).

The Arizona Department of Health Services maintains a web site with daily updates here.

In addition, here are other local, regional, and national resources:

Recommended Precautions

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water aren’t available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you're sick.
  • If you’re sick, avoid contact with pets and other animals
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then immediately throw the tissue away.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Masks are most effective when used by people who have symptoms and they are trying to prevent them from spreading. The World Health Organization has information on use and wearing of masks here.
