AWC Music faculty to perform during Concert Series


Yuma, AZ (January 8, 2019) – St. Paul’s Concert Series will feature Arizona Western College Music Department Faculty in Concert on Sunday, Jan. 27.

Faculty will perform vocal and instrumental classical music during the concert, which will begin at 5 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1550 S. 14th Ave.

The performance is free for the community to attend. Donations will be accepted to support music scholarships for students.

Ag Science Department donates over 500 pounds of produce to food bank


Yuma, AZ (December 18, 2018) – A grand total of 549 pounds of produce grown at the Arizona Western College Land Lab was donated to the Yuma Community Food Bank during 2018.

Donations made throughout the year by the Yuma County Collegiate Young Farmers and Ranchers club consisted of green okra, red okra, green beans, snap peas, beets, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, and eight ball squash. The produce was grown as part of the Plant Science 100 class as well as by other members of the AWC Agricultural Science Department. 

Collaboration provides Winter Health Camp for gifted Castle Dome students


A new collaboration between Arizona Western College Career and Technical Education, the AWC Foundation, Northern Arizona University, and the Yuma County Health Department will provide 20 gifted students at Castle Dome Middle School with an opportunity to attend a free Winter Health Camp.

This three-day camp will give students a chance to participate in interactive workshops on germs, diseases, and antibodies.The camp will be held from Dec. 17-19, at the AWC Yuma Campus and will culminate with an awards reception.

ASU’s American Dream Academy partners with AWC & YUHSD to get more students to college


Participants can qualify for one-time promise award for $4,000 to ASU or $500 to AWC

Yuma, AZ (December 11, 2018) – Arizona State University’s American Dream Academy has ventured out of the Phoenix metropolitan area for the first time in the program’s 12-year history to partner with Arizona Western College and the Yuma Union High School District. The program acts as an additional support to help students and their families through the process of graduating from high school and continuing on to higher education.

Yuma, AZ (December 6, 2018) – The Arizona Western College Civic Orchestra will be presenting “The Spirit of Christmas” on Saturday, Dec. 15.

Arizona Western College announces an end to football program


YUMA, Ariz. (December 5, 2018) – Arizona Western College announced Wednesday, December 5th that the 2018 season of Matador Football would be its final season, leaving behind a well-respected history that stretches across the country and spans 6 decades. The college worked during the past year to navigate a series of seismic changes at the league and 2-year collegiate level, but was unsuccessful in carving a sustainable path forward for the program. Coaching staff and student-athletes have been notified.

AWC Healthcare Programs to Present Open House


Yuma, AZ (December 5, 2018) – Healthcare programs at Arizona Western College will be holding an open house for the community on Tuesday, Dec. 11.

Those interested in learning about a future in healthcare can come meet current students and instructors from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Kachina Medical Plaza, 2451 S. Avenue A, Suite E101.

Attendees can learn about the new Medical Assistant and Home Health Aide programs starting in spring of 2019.

Students win third place during research competition


Yuma, AZ (December 4, 2018) – Two former Arizona Western College students were recently awarded third place for their work during a Student Research League (SRL) competition.

Luciana Elizarraras and Khang Van Pham were recognized with a plaque and a monetary award during the American Mathematical Association for Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) annual conference in Orlando in November. The SRL project was the first research-based competition to be held by AMATYC in April.

AWC to use BankMobile to deliver student disbursement payments


Yuma, AZ (December 3, 2018) – Arizona Western College is partnering with BankMobile to process all student disbursement payments beginning Spring 2019.

A financial company focused solely on education, BankMobile is used by over 800 institutions across the U.S. including Imperial Valley College and Arizona State University. BankMobile helps colleges and universities deliver financial aid credit balances to students quickly, securely, and efficiently.

No fee ATMs will be available at/near most AWC campuses in San Luis, Parker, Yuma, and Quartzsite.
