Third Annual Lecture Series open to public

Yuma, AZ (March 3, 2022) – Students at Arizona Western College will have an opportunity to learn about Women’s History Month during upcoming events and activities happening at the Yuma Campus.

The community is also invited to attend the Third Annual Women’s History Month Lecture Series which will be held from 12 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. on March 9 and March 23 in person at the AWC Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Ave. 8E, and via Zoom.

Wednesday, March 9
Third Annual Women’s History Month Lecture Series - 12 to 1:15 p.m.
AWC Professor of History and Sociology Monica Ketchum will be introducing the topic of “Women Providing Healing;” AWC Professor of Family Studies and Psychology Aryca Marrón will present on “Women’s Work: 9-to-5 and 5-to-9;” and AWC Professor of Spanish Martha Martinez will speak about, “La Curandera in Mexican American Communities.”

Tuesday, March 22
Prize Cab - 12 to 2 p.m.
Students will get picked up around campus by the Prize Cab (golf cart) and will have the opportunity to answer Women’s History Month related questions in order to earn highly sought-after prizes.

Wednesday, March 23
Third Annual Women’s History Month Lecture Series - 12 to 1:15 p.m.
AWC Professor of History and Sociology Monica Ketchum will be introducing the topic of “Women Providing Hope;” AWC Professor of Family Studies and Psychology Dubia Zaragoza will present on “Compassion Fatigue: When Women Care Too Much;” and AWC Professor of English Dr. Ellen Riek will speak about, “In Search of a ‘Thronged and Common Road:’ Lessons from Jane Addams and Hull House.”

Ongoing
The Yuma Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) has an ongoing promotion that allows AWC students to join for the discounted price of $50. The ABWA is devoted to giving the resources to continue with the development of women as professionals by providing an environment of professionalism, leadership, and education. Additionally, there will be free Library for Women’s History Month publications located at the AWC Residence Halls.
