Octsober Fest to educate students about effects of alcohol & drug use

October 12, 2021

Yuma, AZ (October 12, 2021) – Arizona Western College is presenting their annual Octsober Fest for the campus to participate in from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on October 21, in the 3C Breezeway of the AWC Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Avenue 8E.

The event helps educate students and the college community about the effects of alcohol and drug use with activities including root beer pong, the intoxiclock (to see how alcohol affects the human body), drunk goggle demonstrations, and more. The Matador Ambassadors, AWC Police, Yuma County Anti-Drug Coalition, Yuma Harm Reduction Outreach by Sonoran Prevention, Yuma County Public Health Services, and the Regional Center for Border Health will be in attendance.

“Having an event centered around alcohol awareness is vital to AWC as it creates opportunities to educate students about alcohol consumption in a creative and interactive environment,” said Shara Skinner, AWC Coordinator of Student Leadership and Activities. “During this event we will help explore alcohol-related myths, provide information on getting help for substance abuse, and offer valuable education related to combating negative and inaccurate stereotypes of college drinking behavior.”
