leadHERship workshops kick off at San Luis Learning Center

January 25, 2024

Scholarships available for ten outstanding participants

San Luis, AZ (January 25, 2024) – The Arizona Western College San Luis Learning Center is proud to announce the launch of leadHERship, an initiative focused on fostering gender equality and empowerment within the community.

leadHERship workshops are set to begin Monday, January 29, providing an invaluable platform for students of all genders to engage in meaningful conversations, enhance leadership skills, and drive positive change. leadHERship is a comprehensive program designed to address the unique needs and challenges faced by women in the community. Through a series of five monthly workshops, participants will explore topics such as overcoming stereotypes, mentorship and networking, empowering through education, women in leadership, and more.

The leadHERship program was selected as one of 10 proposals approved through the 2024 AWC Innovation Fund. Dr. Sara Amani, Professor of Multilingual Composition/Specialist; Susie Zambrano, Associate Dean for South Yuma County Services; and Maria Guzman, Advising and Student Services Coordinator, were awarded $20,000 for their leadHERship proposal to implement the program.

“We invite all members of the AWC community to join us in this transformative journey towards gender equality and empowerment. Together, we can create positive change and cultivate a campus culture that fosters the growth and success of every individual,” said Dr. Amani.

To further support participants, leadHERship will be awarding $250 scholarships to 10 outstanding individuals who actively engage in the program and demonstrate commitment to gender equality.

leadHERship welcomes all students, faculty, and staff to participate in these empowering workshops. While the focus is on addressing issues affecting women, everyone is encouraged to join the monthly discussions and activities.
