AWC 2017 Commencement


Record Number of Degrees and Certificates to be Awarded

Yuma, AZ (May 8, 2017)-Arizona Western College, Northern Arizona-Yuma Branch Campus and University of Arizona announce the 2017 Commencement. The ceremony will take place at Veterans Memorial Stadium located at 7150 E. 24th Street, next to Gila Ridge High School, on Friday, May 19 at 8:00 PM.

AWC is Hosting Summer Science Camp for Ages 13 to 18


Arizona Western College will be hosting Summer Science Camp for ages 13-18.  The camp takes place on June 5th to June 9th from 9am to 12pm each day on the Yuma Campus in the AS building.  The cost is just $50, which covers all 5 days of the camp. Spaces are limited and the deadline to register is Monday, May 29th.  Registration can be done via telephone (928) 317-7674, online at ContinuingEd@azwestern.edu or by walk-in to the Redondo Center at 1351 S. Redondo Center Drive.

National Achievement and Recognition for Jacqueline Farley


Yuma, AZ (May 4, 2017)-On March 29th, 2017 Arizona Western College student Jacqueline Farley traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to receive two national writing awards from Sigma Kappa Delta, the National Two-Year College English Honor Society.

 

Jaqueline won 2nd and 3rd place prizes for the National Essay Writing Contest for her Pieces “I Asked for Extra Mayo and Got Mermaid” and “On Amonds.”

 

Two AWC Spring Concert Music Performances Coming Up


Yuma, AZ (May 1, 2017)-There are two spring music performances coming up at Arizona Western College.  First up is the AWC Community Band and Pep Band’s spring concert that will take place on Monday, May 1st at 7:00 pm in the AWC Theater.  Then the spring concert for the AWC Jazz Ensemble is on Wednesday, May 10th at 7pm in the AWC Theater.

AWC Presents the Formal Student Recital on May 7


The Arizona Western College Music Department will have its Formal Student Recital at 1 pm on Sunday, May 7 in the AWC Theater on the Yuma Campus.  The Formal Student Recital is the end-of-the-semester performance presented by the music students taking private lessons.

Arizona Western College’s 2017 Teachers of the Year


This year’s Arizona Western College 2017 Teachers of the Year honorees are Reetika Dhawan, Professor of Mathematics, and Douglas Pearson, Adjunct Faculty of Business.  Both will be recognized at the Yuma County Education Foundation Teacher of the Year banquet at the Yuma Civic and Convention Center on April 25th.

As the Teacher of the Year, one of Reetika’s award responsibilities is to select a student who is a high school senior or a student already attending AWC for a scholarship.

Talent Search & Upward Bound to Host College Life for 10th Graders


Arizona Western College will be hosting College Life for 10th grade Talent Search and Upward Bound students on Wednesday, April 26th in the Schoening Center at 9 am on the Yuma Campus.

Tenth graders from area high schools will play the game of "College LIFE" as they learn

about ways to pay for college and how much college costs.  Each team of two students receives a play checkbook.  They earn scholarships and receive their financial aid and then go to Campus Life to pay for housing, the cashier to pay for tuition and the bookstore to buy books.

Trio Works in Yuma & La Paz Counties


Students and graduates from Arizona Western College’s TRIO programs will participate in the 2017 AWC TRIO Day of Celebration on Wednesday, April 26th to express appreciation to the community for its support of the TRIO programs. For millions of students from low-income families who strive to be the first in their families to attend and graduate from college, seven federally funded programs called TRIO are making a world of difference.
