AWC hosts ceremony to recognize national math competition winners

Yuma, AZ (April 15, 2019) – Each year Arizona Western College students compete in the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) Student Mathematics League national competition. More than 165 college participate in the competition, which includes a very challenging exam. Brett Peterson, AWC Professor of Mathematics, states, “The questions are designed to be challenging and require higher order thinking as opposed to memorization.” 

The top three AWC student competitors will be recognized for their performance at this year’s competition during a ceremony to be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. in the Engineering Building (EB) on the Yuma Campus. The first place student, Robert LaLonde, will receive a $250 cash prize; the second place student, Dylan Leslie, will receive a $150 cash prize; the third place student, Sergio Sanchez, will receive $100 cash prize.
