San Luis Campus Holding 5th Annual Educational Family Night

The community is invited to join the Arizona Western College Alicia Valdez San Luis Learning Center for their fifth annual AWC Education Family Night on Wednesday, October 4th from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

“The AWC Education Family Night highlights the college and community services, programs, and degrees in a fun and informative event for students, family, and friends,” said Omar Heredia, Advising and Student Services Coordinator for AWC’s South Yuma County campus.

AWC CDLL Renews National NAEYC Accreditation

Arizona Western College’s Dr. Kathryn A. Watson Child Development Learning Laboratory (CDLL) has successfully renewed their accreditation for another year through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

“Accreditation is a mark of high-quality in all aspects of our program,” said CDLL Director Alma Barrandey. “Every decision that is made in our center is made with our accreditation in mind. From the materials that are purchased, curriculum that is taught, trainings for our teachers and administration decisions on who to hire for our program.”

Child Development Learning Lab Scholastic Book Fair from Oct 9 to Oct 13

The Dr. Kathryn A. Watson Child Development Learning Lab (CDLL) at Arizona Western College will be hosting their annual Scholastic Book Fair from Monday, October 9 to Friday, October 13.  All book sales benefit the CDLL.  They will earn Scholastic Dollars from the sale that can be put towards items for the center.

Everyone is welcome to stop by and purchase the books at the CDLL all week from 6:30am-5:30pm.  There will be books onsite or they can be ordered online at

Arizona Western College Welcomes Chief Information Officer to Campus

The principles of providing value to the community we serve motivated Arizona Western College’s new Chief Information Officer to relocate the Desert Southwest. Joe McLain stepped into a new position and a new leadership role at Arizona Western College in mid-August.

After sixteen years at University of California Santa Barbara McLain began exploring other options that highlight his leadership skills which he fine-tuned while in the Army. McLain says he developed a passion for leadership while deployed as the Company First Sergeant in a Civil Affairs battalion.
