Lecture recital to feature music from women composers

October 7, 2019

Yuma, AZ (October 7, 2019) – Arizona Western College faculty and community members will be performing during an upcoming lecture recital on Sunday, Oct. 20.

“Moving Away from the Margins: Women Composers - Center Stage!” will feature both men and women playing music written by women composers. There will be a brass trio, a horn solo, a flute solo, a piano solo, a piano duet, and two vocal soloists.

“This recital is dedicated to music from women composers who have been marginalized instead of given the recognition they richly deserve,” said Shirley Ehler, an associate music faculty member at AWC.

“It has been billed a lecture recital because we will take time to explain why each piece has been included. The recital is an outgrowth from a research paper I wrote about marginalized women composers entitled, ‘Hidden Jewels.’”

The performance will be held at 3 p.m. at Gloria de Cristo Lutheran Church, 11273 E. 40th St., and is free and open to the general public.
