AWC instructor Holly Hendrick earns second consecutive selection to prestigious ceramic competition
May 3, 2026Yuma, Ariz. (May 3, 2026) – Arizona Western College adjunct ceramics instructor Holly Hendrick has been selected to exhibit her work in the 26th San Angelo North American Ceramic Competition at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts.
The bi-annual exhibition, which runs from April 17 to June 21, features ceramic artists from across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This year, only 80 works were selected from approximately 700 submissions, making the exhibition one of the most competitive ceramic shows in North America. As Hendrick’s work was also accepted in 2024, her selection this year marks two consecutive appearances at the prestigious event.
Hendrick’s featured piece, “Media Monster,” explores the role of contemporary media in shaping public discourse. The sculpture is constructed from stoneware clay and painted with Golden Fluid Acrylics.
“Media Monster examines how the American media thrives on division rather than connection,” Hendrick explained. “Born of consumption and built from technology and human fragments, it blurs the line between organic and machine. Feeding on certainty and anger, it turns conflict into profit and asks how our participation keeps it alive.”
Hendrick is currently pursuing her Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics at Fort Hays State University while educating high school and college students in Yuma. Her sculptural work explores themes of power, technology, disinformation, and societal division through expressive ceramic forms and layered symbolism.
At AWC, faculty artists like Hendrick bring professional experience and active artistic practice into the classroom, enriching the learning environment for students pursuing the arts.
