Legislators with AWC President, Dr. Daniel Corr

Arizona Western College hosts fourth-annual Legislative Town Hall

October 1, 2025

Yuma, Ariz. (September 25, 2025) – On September 23, Arizona Western College was proud to host Yuma County’s state elected officials at a public Town Hall where they reviewed the impact of the 2025 Legislative Session. The Town Hall highlighted recent accomplishments and changes in legislation affecting the Yuma community.

“As a college of the community, Arizona Western College is honored to provide a platform for meaningful dialogue between our state legislators and the local community,” said AWC President Dr. Daniel Corr. “This Town Hall was, once again, an invaluable opportunity for our community, and our students, to engage directly with their elected officials, ensuring that our shared priorities—such as education and healthcare—remain at the forefront of legislative action.”

Participating in the panel discussion and public Q&A moderated by Dr. Corr were Yuma County’s six legislators: Sen. Brian Fernandez, Rep. Mariana Sandoval, Rep. Michele Peña, Sen. Tim Dunn, Rep. Nick Kupper, and Rep. Michael Carbone

"These annual events hosted by Arizona Western College to connect my community with our work at the Capitol is something I always look forward to,” shared Sen. Fernandez (D-LD23). “Receiving questions and hearing feedback from my constituents at this event helps me shape my work and focus for the upcoming session."

“This is my third year participating in these town halls, and I always appreciate the local leaders and the people
showing up to get to know more about their legislators and the important issues at the Capitol," said Rep. Michele Peña (R-LD23). "The work I do and decisions I make are reflective of what I see and hear from the people at events like these. Legislative district 23 being one of the largest geographic regions represented at our Capitol, I appreciate these opportunities to connect with the people and have conversations and hope to see my constituents at next year’s town hall.”

Panelists addressed their priorities and strategies to passing the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 state budget despite an increasingly challenging political divide and fiscal outlook, in addition to key issues affecting the Yuma community such as water, education, and healthcare.

Prior to the public Town Hall, the legislators met with AWC students in a private roundtable conversation.
