Appreciative Advising Workshop on June 8th


Yuma, AZ (June 1, 2017)-Dr. Jennifer Bloom, the creator of “Appreciative Advising” will be presenting a three hour training to a joint group of advisors from Arizona Western College and Northern Arizona University-Yuma on Thursday, June 8th from 9am to 12pm in the Francis Morris Board Room on the Yuma Campus. This training is being sponsored by Partners Advancing Completion through Transfer Opportunities (PACTO), which is a collaboration between AWC and NAU-Yuma to create a seamless transfer pathway and improve academic success at both institutions.

 

Nine Students Earned Scholarships at AWC’s Student Showcase


The General Education Curriculum Committee held their 9th Annual Student Showcase at Arizona Western College on May 10, 2017. Over seventy-five students participated and shared projects ranging from scientific posters, modern language presentations, business models, informational websites, dramatic readings, and mechanical projects, including a six-foot tall trebuchet!

AWC Youth Choir Summer Camp Starts June 13


AWC Continuing Education and Yuma High School have partnered to bring back the AWC Youth Choir Summer Camp. The Camp will be from June 13 to June 23 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Youth must be entering 3rd grade or higher to participate. All rehearsals will be held in the Yuma High School Choir Room and the end of camp concert will be at Snider Auditorium on June 23rd.

Governor Ducey names AWC President Corr to State Board


Dr. Daniel P. Corr, Arizona Western College’s 9th President, has been named one of four new appointees to the Arizona State Board of Education by Governor Doug Ducey.

“I look forward to contributing to the advancement of education for all of Arizona’s citizens.  I intend to be a vocal advocate in support of the vital role community colleges play in Arizona as well as highlighting the challenges unique to K-12 schools in rural Arizona,” said Dr. Corr.

Chicano Educational Conference to be hosted locally


The Yuma Chapter of the Arizona Association of Chicanos for Higher Education (AACHE) announces its annual conference. The conference, titled The Influence of Minorities to American Culture, will take place on Friday, November 17, 2017 on the Yuma Campus at Arizona Western College and Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the César Chávez Cultural Center in San Luis, AZ.

AWC is Working to Become More Bike Friendly


Yuma, AZ (May 15, 2017)-May is National Bike Month and Arizona Western College is working to become more bike friendly, so that they can help the city apply to be one of the Bike Friendly cities in America. 

AWC is in the planning stages of helping the campus become more bike friendly and will be working on the following items to help accomplish this goal:

-A campus map that details where bike lanes and/or bike marked roads are on campus.

-Adding safe places to ride on the Bike rack map.

-Cycling Club  

-Bike Sharing Program

AWC 2017 Commencement


Record Number of Degrees and Certificates to be Awarded

Yuma, AZ (May 8, 2017)-Arizona Western College, Northern Arizona-Yuma Branch Campus and University of Arizona announce the 2017 Commencement. The ceremony will take place at Veterans Memorial Stadium located at 7150 E. 24th Street, next to Gila Ridge High School, on Friday, May 19 at 8:00 PM.

AWC is Hosting Summer Science Camp for Ages 13 to 18


Arizona Western College will be hosting Summer Science Camp for ages 13-18.  The camp takes place on June 5th to June 9th from 9am to 12pm each day on the Yuma Campus in the AS building.  The cost is just $50, which covers all 5 days of the camp. Spaces are limited and the deadline to register is Monday, May 29th.  Registration can be done via telephone (928) 317-7674, online at ContinuingEd@azwestern.edu or by walk-in to the Redondo Center at 1351 S. Redondo Center Drive.
