Juniors and seniors invited to go Off to College

September 24, 2019

Yuma, AZ (September 24, 2019) – Arizona Western College is holding an Off to College event for upperclassmen in Talent Search and Upward Bound programs on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

From 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., juniors and seniors will be preparing for college by learning about financial aid and how to find scholarships. The event will take place in the Schoening Conference Center at the AWC Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Ave 8E.

Students will also hear from a college student panel and conclude their visit with lunch in the AWC Eatery. Campuses participating in the event include Parker, Kofa, Cibola, Antelope, San Luis, and Yuma high schools.

Talent Search and Upward Bound are both federally funded grant programs through the U.S. Department of Education. They are designed to help students graduate from high school and continue on to college, ultimately earning a post-secondary degree. Eligible students are potential first-generation college students, and/or low income.

“The AWC Upward Bound and Talent Search programs have been preparing first-generation and low-income students for college access and success for over 20 years,” said Michelle Thomas, AWC Director of TRIO Programs.

The media is invited to attend this event.
