For the student showcase, I will be creating a sculpture with no prior knowledge or experience for the sake of stepping out of routine in my carefully assembled schedule in school and work. Recently, there has been this reoccurring memory of when I was twelve and sitting in my therapist's office. I was telling her about my violin classes, and she asked me why I wanted to start playing. I told her I wanted to play violin covers of songs I often listened to. She then asked me if I had. It was such a simple question that was used to fill the silence, yet it hit me hard that I hadn't. I feel as though I'm looking into memories that aren't mine, but I've been recalling my artistic nature as a child. I played the violin, painted, and wrote stories, and none of them were good, but I was allowed to not do so. All I had was the will to create anything for my entertainment only, and my creations still remain in my core childhood memories.

Life happens, and I have remained in the same place, unsure when I stayed and stopped making things for the sake of making them, turning my everyday into something mechanical. Similar to an android whose entire purpose is already set before them, the system is set and ingrained to perform mundane activities at specific times for no reasons that actually matter: wake up at 9am, brush teeth, comb hair, get dressed, drive, arrive at 10am, work until 3pm, get dressed, drive, work until 10pm, drive, get unready, sleep, so on and so forth. A lot of the time I get too tired; I can no longer tell if my fake work smile even looks like a smile; my knees are sore, my feet ache, my left hip has an internal sharp pain, and I can't seem to crack a spot in my upper back I know would relieve my body if I were able to reach it. I need to make something to feel in control again.

My sculpture won't mean anything, as in it won't have any meaning, artistic expression, or story behind it; neither do I have a reason for choosing sculpting; it simply came to mind, and I decided to stick to it. I'm making it just for the sake of making it. Like every other artwork, it's up to interpretation and can mean something if you want it to. If anything, I'm hoping to feel more anatomical than mechanical after my completion and maybe a newfound confidence in pursuing art just like I had as a child.

My project is a mix of different kinds of art, like paintings, drawings with charcoal, markers, and colors, and ceramic pieces. Each artwork has its own style, theme, and technique. Some focus on colors and details, while others explore textures and shapes. By using different materials, I express ideas, emotions, and creativity in many ways.

This project best fits the Aesthetics & Creative Thinking principle because it is all about making art in different forms and exploring new ideas. Trying new techniques helps me grow as an artist and find new ways to share my thoughts through art.

El Amor - Original Song

For the Student Showcase, I would love to present and perform with my guitar, my own original song. Out of the five Guiding Principles for Learning, the primary principle in this specific song is Ethical Growth & Wellness, among Collaboration & Inclusion, and Aesthetics & Creative Thinking. My song aligns with these principles as it is about the lyrics, not just the music. A message within the music that encourages and brings a strong voice of unity and peace. As the main hook goes, "Lo hacemos todo por amor," serves as a reminder that all the hard work we are putting in to accomplish our goals, visions and dreams is for the love of our family, the love of serving others, and the love of life. The song is an intentional comforting message with the demographic of my own peers in mind who I see every day on campus, even the ones I do not know, to remind them to breathe, and to remember their "why" - to not give up.

Though I am of Hispanic ethnicity, English is my first language, and I write most of my music in English. But recently, I was inspired to reach those within my own culture through my music, especially during these times and upcoming controversial topics relating to people of Hispanic heritage. There is much pain and hurt going on within this community.

Writing "El Amor” was very challenging as Spanish is not my first language and through this process, I have learned much about how meaning is translated into another language and how to keep the same message when translating. It has also brought me very close in relationship to my grandparents and relatives who only speak Spanish. I collaborated with them during the process of translating the song and making sure I am accurately using the correct grammar while maintaining the message. Even though I wrote this song, it taught me greatly about my own culture, how the greatest value of the Hispanic culture is the bond of family and unity. It has given me a deeper sense of understanding and insight into where I come from.

I believe performing in the Student Showcase would not only be a great experience for me, but above all, I truly believe this is a special opportunity to spread this message to my fellow colleges and others who share my culture. This is a beautiful opportunity to uplift and spread hope, unity, and peace, which is what we all deeply need in this time, and that is why I would love to present this project.

Something New

I want to call my project "Something New” since I like drawing, dancing, writing and singing. Even though I am not amazing at any of those things, I still continue to do it once awhile. Which is why I want to try something else which I gave up on since I know I am not good at it which is painting so I want to try to paint for the showcase. In other words, me painting and the painting itself will represent something out of my comfort zone since I am used to sticking to the things I know or have a certain criteria. For instance, I usually draw anime characters once in a while considering if I draw a person it always turns out cartoony.

I chose aesthetics and creative thinking because the painting will be out of my comfort zone, so instead using a guideline it will be something my mind comes up with. Considering when I usually write, dance, sing, or draw there is usually type or guideline I follow. When I am writing it's the prompts and the word requirements and MLA format. Then with dancing I usually follow the beat of the song and I sing along to somebody else's voice. When I am drawing I usually look at an image or several different images in google to create my drawing. Without images I tend to draw eyes, rainbows, or a sewer since I usually go by my first stroke with my pencil that makes an arch making me create easy things that I feel at ease to make. Which is why I want to paint and paint a painting that does not follow any rules or guidelines by being based on an image, but instead a painting that I will create which will represent me getting out of my comfort zone.

Opening the Door

I refuse to let anything get in my way, instead face them head first and continue to open the door for what's next to come. My past isn't a self pity party, it's a motivation to keep a positive mindset and continue to grow and thrive. The end goal is to be the best version of myself.

The World of Art

In my project I will be representing the different ways that people can see the arts from being creative to the stories that one can tell. The art is not just something that is created it is how you can see the little details in what is created.

Book Cover Jacket Design

For this project I was instructed to create and design a book cover jacket. It can be a remake of an original or your own created cover. The design of the book jacket contains intimate details about the book it encases. Elements of the book jacket were to include an image that hints at the books contents, a summary of the story, a review of the book, a biography of the author, and publication information. This project incorporated the guiding principle of aesthetics and creative thinking. Through this project I developed an expanded awareness of the arts through the exploration of imagination and creativity. Having come up with an original book cover, I was able to implement many elements that I have learned from my digital imaging and graphic communications courses I am taking, such as design process, design stages, C.R.A.P. concepts (Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, Proximity), typography, and color modes. All of which, are elements of the aesthetic and creative thinking processes.

Through this project I learned a lot about the design elements that are needed to create and design a book cover, from proper typography, alignment and font size when it comes to placing text on the cover, to creatively making a summary and reviews of the book. I also learned about myself through the process. While creating an original book cover can seem daunting I was able to approach this project with confidence, and discovered the joy of creating an original piece of artwork. I am still curious about applying the many more different elements that go into graphic design and am looking forward to continuing that education through the AAS in Computer Graphics program here at AWC.

Research on Water-repellent Surfaces for Maritime Applications

My project consists of a poster presentation on the research I conducted during a summer internship in 2024. Water-repellent materials have many properties, such as anti-icing, anti-corrosion, and drag reduction. In my research project, we explored how these materials behave underwater to determine their potential applications in the naval and maritime industries. We discovered that in order to maintain these properties underwater, it is crucial to preserve a layer of air covering the surface of the material. We conducted several experiments to explore the best methods for sustaining this air layer. This information could be applied to ships to reduce drag, leading to lower fuel consumption and greater efficiency.

Execution

My mixed media piece, “execution" shows a lone dancer performing for a crowd of unsettling crows looming about. It was created primarily using marker, pencil, pen, and acrylic paint. When one looks closely at the crows they might be cheering, leering, or shouting ect. depending on who is looking at them or what they are currently feeling. The crows typically seen as a dark, unlucky, or deadly symbol can represent a lot of things here. This leads into my primary principle of aesthetics and creativity because I wanted to make something beautiful yet uncomfortable at the same time. Something that makes the viewer think and make connections with their own life and feelings. I left a lot of things open to interpretation that are intended to change from person to person or how one is feeling when they look at my art. Thats where my creative thinking shines, I choose to give the crows odd positions and faces that can be interpreted in different ways. I chose a name that adds meaning but does not confine people to a specific idea. Leaving open eerie empty space is my creative solution to elicit feelings of emptiness. My decisions often gravitating around the feeling of being in a dream. Even choosing to leave the dancer faceless, with flowy though unrealistic or inhuman bodily shape. It is all by design to allow creativity from the viewers. I want it to be like a dream one has then wishes to ruminate on a bit later. The way dreams feel so odd, pure raw creativity from the unconscious, and full of meaning are a big inspiration for my work. It also displays collaboration and inclusion because I specifically designed it to be able to cover different perspectives, feelings, and people. The face being blank allows for people to include any emotion despite differences from viewer to viewer. I choose not to give the figure any skin color and appear a bit more like a mannequin because I want it to be all inclusive. Even ethical growth and wellness can be argued to be present because this art can very well be interpreted to be about the self. It can be about self improvement, achievement, failure, or even bravery. All things I want people to think of, to look within and wonder how these things affect their well being. I create my art to elicit these thoughts in hopes it can help people think critically and continue to work on becoming better people.

While creating this piece I discovered how to better make things look uncomfortable, yet blissful at the same time. Utilizing dark symbols with crows, bright eyed stares, strange poses, darkness, even emptiness, yet looking at how the dancer flows and glows gently, beautifully in the light it can be seen as something more subtle. Gentle, but you can still feel the pressure of the stage. Just the simple act of ballet dancing being as hard and stiff a feeling as it is to perform, if one thinks about this or has experienced it they know it can be an odd mix of opposites. I did not know how to render a spotlight before I studied so many of them for this art I have here today. I spent a long time learning to capture rays of light by watching them floating about and shining through windows. A ton of time was also spent deciding what elements I could use or manipulate to give the piece meaning that could change and grow. I was careful with colors, the types of birds used, the hair style, the outfit, everything had to be looked into analyzed and re analyzed from different viewpoints to assure it could achieve its purpose. After completing my work I still wonder what more I could've added. What other symbols could I fit in while keeping it "empty" and open to interpretation. I wonder if I made it uncomfortable enough while keeping the strangeness subtle enough so one may even have a more positive feel come from the piece. I'm still very curious about the study of light and how to gain more scientific accuracy while keeping my art a bit more abstract and dream-like. Constantly wondering how I can make my art feel more like a dream or the inside of one's own mind.

These varieties of painting are a way to relieve my anxiety. This painting led to unexpected turns throughout my time, however, it made me understand what I value most and what I can see through people I care about in life. The projects are a variety of paintings that all go under Aesthetics & Creative Thinking/ Ethical Growth & Wellness.

First Painting (Stand Out) is an aesthetics and creative thinking; these colorful fish identify that people like the best quality and ignore the same single fish. It's saying that there's nothing wrong about being different, and the feeling of trying to be someone else but your other quality stands out, to be yourself is not like everyone else.

The second Painting (Mood change) represents ethical growth and wellness; the painting that represents a girl hugging her dog represents supportive love. It started as a woman surrounded by an arch of flowers, however, I thought of something else that resembles someone trying to forget their sadness and worry and only take some who support them and are happy, and it is hard to express or accept it and help when you let go of your worries.

Learning the Language of Vision

My project includes multiple drawings and images which I've created for/during my ART-101-005 class this semester, and which include the use of pencils, pens, colored pencils, paint, watercolor and/or construction paper. These illustrations represent my journey and process of learning the language of vision, with each one showcasing different visual elements used in graphic art such as line, shape, space, texture, value and color as well as the separate aspects of each one. This reflects one of the Guiding Principles as these visual elements are what help create a pleasing visual Aesthetic as well as guide Creative Thinking, which is what I've practiced in creating these illustrations.

This project also represents the application of the knowledge of art that I've gained in taking this class, as I've been able to experiment and develop my own creative ways of showcasing each visual element without any guidance besides the knowledge of the language of vision itself. During this process, I've learned which mediums work best for representing different visual elements, how I've already been applying these elements in some of my drawings, and how I could have better applied them in others. As this semester is only half-way completed, I am excited and eager to learn what other principles and elements of design there are for me to learn, apply and use to create and improve my art.

Informational Animation - Guide To The Internet
Justin Grant

My project is a blender animation meant to teach people about how downloading over the internet works. It is made in blender and has a blend of 2D and 3D animation. I will be voice acting the 2D character and it was featuring a 3D model of the MAC building. I'm not 100% sure on the length of the animation but I'm aiming for at least a few minutes' worth of animation work. I believe this will showcase the skill I've picked up during my time working towards my degree. Both 3D modelling class as well as 2D animation class.

Most of the 3D work was hand crafted by me using the program called blender. I used an application called Toon Squid to create the 2D animated character featured in the video that I'm creating. The character will be talking to the viewer and explain the way computers connected to the internet are able to download content through WIFI. In the video a 3D character I modeled, and rig will be used to demonstrate the process from the user's end. I believe the MAC model that I created for the animation was sent to my 3D modelling teacher to showcase.

White Christmas (1954)

This painting is from a scene from a very nostalgic movie for me called, “white Christmas” which was released in 1954 and starred Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera Ellen.

The guiding principles I used unconsciously in my painting would be Application & Creation of Knowledge and Aesthetics & Creative Thinking. I used a lot of the things my teacher taught me in this painting, like the grid method and putting the wet, dark paint first and then blending the lighter paint on top. I also used watered down washes of paint to correct the hues of colors after they dried. I specifically chose this scene because I was always drawn to the composition whenever this scene played, even though this specific shot didn't hold much significance for the movie or plot.

This painting was mostly just putting everything I've learned from painting class to the test, if anything I just learned to do things more efficiently. Like how to place down paint and how to space everything out correctly. In future paintings I definitely want to try and put more fine detail in the main subject to put more focus on where the viewer should direct their eyes.

Fujimotos Fish Garden

"Fujimoto's fish gardens" is inspired by a scene from the animated Japanese movie Ponyo directed by Hayao Miyazaki from the studio, Studio Ghibli. The guiding principle that directed this project is Aesthetics & Creative Thinking. This has definitely been one of my biggest, most detailed paintings I've ever done. I took a scene from the movie and added more fish and sea creatures, and also since it was 2d I made it look more 3d and realistic while also keeping some whimsical traits.

What I learned from the experience of doing this painting is that composition is very important, especially color contrast if you have a lot of vibrant colors. Since there is so much going on you don't want things to blend into each other. Next time I do a painting this big I want to add more detail, because currently have a very painterly style.

"on visibility" (Poetry)

"on visibility" is a poem I wrote for International Transgender Day of Visibility. In the poem I explore the different positions transgender people engage in and how transgender people are viewed in today's sociopolitical climate. Stanzas one through four describe the omnipresence of transgender people in society. Stanza six addresses dehumanizing labels that are cast on transgender people, with stanzas seven and eight no longer viewing transgender people as individuals but as an idea that can be observed or removed. Stanzas nine and ten suggest that transgender people are being erased from society and history.

This project reflects the guiding principle "Aesthetics & Creative Thinking" due to its exploration of human imagination and expression. In this poem, I reflect on the ways I am seen by my family, peers, and the broader community. This project also expresses the principle "Collaboration & Inclusion" through its exploration of diverse perspectives and experiences. I used this project as a tool to explore my identity in relation to those around me and grow as an aspiring poetry author. Exploring different poetic techniques such as repetition, symbolism, and metaphor have allowed me to create a written work I am proud of. Going forward, I hope to continue writing poetry that allows others to connect with me.

The project's name is "Look! There are two people looking at you!". I named the project this because, if you look closely, you will feel like these two girls are looking at you. At first, I didn't feel that way, but when I looked again and again, I felt like these two girls were looking at me, and that's why I named my project this. I started this project on March 4 and finished this drawing within five lessons. I drew and came up with the idea for this drawing in Drawing 1 class.

After this project, I learned that if I can do anything if I don't give up.

After finishing this work, I still don't understand why I could draw the girl's face because I'm really bad at drawing human faces.

Miniature Room

In my ceramics course, we were assigned to create a miniature room with the freedom to design and create as we desired. A primary guiding principle we were given was to show signs of life in our miniature rooms without adding humans into the room. So, on the outside of my project, I created vines that wrap around the outside of the "house" to give the effect of life of plants. On the inside, I added two cats to represent my cats at home. We were also required to make an opening to welcome the inside the"room." So, I made a window opening where my cat sits to get a view of the outside. From this project, I learned how to use underglazes and sculpt clay. I now understand what to do differently the next time I work with underglazes and what to do the next time. It was a fun learning experience where I could show my creativity. I'm curious about what more I would've added if I had more time to work on this project before its deadline.

Sitting With Ambience

My project, "Sitting With Ambience", is made with graphite and colored pencils. It's a self-portrait/composite that includes two versions of myself. One figure is sitting on a toilet, thinking solemnly, with a thought bubble that reads, "I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it." The other figure stands in the background with an awkward smile. I added a pop of color by highlighting the jacket I was wearing at the time. The drawing shows two sides of my personality placed in one room—while they may seem like opposites, they're both still me. I usually work in graphite, but I wanted to challenge myself by bringing color into this piece. It was a deliberate choice to elevate the drawing, catch the viewer's attention, and create contrast. I enjoy leaving my pieces open to interpretation, so I packed in details for others to piece together. I put thought into how to position the figures and where to add color, blending creativity with visual appeal.

This project took time-from developing the idea to bringing it to life and deciding on the title. It challenged my analytical thinking and self-reflection throughout the process, especially when figuring out how to approach certain parts. I learned to stick with it even when it didn't feel right. I kept pushing through, which taught me that struggle is part of the process. As Banksy said, "If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quit". I'm proud of what I created because I know I gave it my all. Finishing this project gave me new inspiration and motivation to keep challenging myself and grow as an artist. I know there are still many techniques I haven't explored yet, and I'm excited to see how far I can go with my next idea.

Unfolding English: My 101 Journey.

This project aims to showcase my journey through English 101. Through visual thinking, I will explore the key concepts and skills I've gained as an international student in my composition class (ENG 101), demonstrating how graphic design tools and visual aids can enhance my learning process. By applying design principles like color, layout, and typography, I will show how they help me retain information.

The primary guiding principle of this project is Aesthetics & Creative Thinking. I will transform the content from my weekly reading journals and in-class projects into creative slides and a poster, reflecting my individual expression and learning process in a visually engaging way. Another principle I'm incorporating is Metacognition and Application & Creation of Knowledge. By reflecting on my learning process, I can improve my study methods and reinforce my understanding through visual tools. I will carefully consider which details I might forget in the future, such as key points for presentations, tests, or topics I want to retain long-term, and add visual cues to help me remember them.

I plan to continue using this approach throughout my academic journey, and I am curious about how it will support my learning as I move into more complex subjects like anatomy and physiology. Looking ahead, I aim to expand my knowledge in areas such as data visualization to enhance my visual communication skills, which I can apply in my future healthcare career. Ultimately, my goal is that this project demonstrates how design and creative thinking can be powerful learning tools.

Little Elon
Allison Barnes

Location: Yuma

A tiny ceramic sculpture of Elon Musk filled with rattling beads. He is part of an entire chess set meant to represent Technology vs. Nature. I am influenced by the unavoidable social conflict that the powers at be create, but try to express it with humor and jest. Tiny Elon Musk has a smug expression, his hands in his pockets, and perky coat-tails that exude his power without saying anything. The beads in his head shake representing the mystery of the workings of his mind.

This project is a culmination of my couple of years practicing sculpture. This is my first time trying to represent the likeness of somebody, and I had to make a few trial masks of his face as practice. Executing the project took me a decent understanding of the structural integrity of clay, since he is top heavy, it required me to cut and rebuild pieces and hollow out parts to consider the weight of the sculpture.

Elon's counterpart is a Mother Nature sculpture. This project allowed me to express a lot of my worries about the world in a playful way! I am happy to always be inspired by artists in my classes, and always be learning. Moving forward, I am curious how the social and political climate will influence art and culture even on such a small scale as my college art class.

Empty Thoughts Vol. 1: Promises To Keep & The Door

Hello we are Tindra Åberg and Josue Hernandez, and the project we have created is called Empty Thoughts Vol 1: Promises To Keep & The Door. Empty Thoughts is an anthology collection of two short films written, directed and edited by the both of us. Our project primarily applies the Aesthetic & Creative Thinking guideline as we take multiple inspirations across different types of media and art through the lens of film to explore a greater reflection of the self. With the goal to make the viewer sit and question the human emotions presented even if discomfort may arise. Our project also touches on the Application & Creation of Knowledge guideline. As Television production students we have been able to learn and hone our skills in video creation through lessons and class projects.

However, with this project we took it as a way to challenge ourselves to pursue a truly personal project outside of the classroom. Ultimately this experience was both of our first forays into the serious and professional filmmaking environment, taking our first steps into the world of creative freedom and technical application. We are both very much excited to make the Student Showcase our first platform to which we can present our films.

Promises To Keep by Tindra Åberg

The short film Promises To Keep portrays a college girl named Robin and her tumultuous state of mind, floating between feelings of senselessness and depression. This leads her to zone out throughout different moments of her day. Despite this, she is reminded that she has things to do, tasks to complete, and promises to keep that snap her back to reality.

Promises To Keep is inspired by the 1923 Robert Frost poem Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. I first encountered this text in my poetry class. On the surface, this poem describes a man stopping in the middle of a forest one winter's night while on his way to complete a task he was given. However, after contemplating the dark depths of the woods for a moment, he decides to continue as he has "promises to keep, [a]nd miles to go before [he] sleep[s]." My poetry professor (shout out to Professor Matteson) explained how this poem can be interpreted as a contemplation of suicide. Professor Matteson's explanation helped me see the poem with different eyes, which later inspired me to make this short film.

The Door by Josue Hernandez

The short film The Door follows Eve, a man troubled with delusions and visions of emptiness. In this one particular night the hauntings have reached their climax and he is faced with only one option: to confront them. Despite his efforts he is ultimately powerless against his delusions and gives into temptation, succumbing and be coming the thing he fears most.

The Door is very much a film that drew from a lot of my personal fears and doubts as a creator and artist. In many ways, it is a representation of the personal war that I have within my mind. At many points in this project I was forced to confront these doubts. Although I may have not given into these doubts today, I believe it is a confrontation that I will continue to struggle with and learn to grow from. Though bleak, I think this project has taught me to trust and believe in my skills and craft no matter how many times I might be faced with my own Door. The Door also draws a lot of inspiration from many different media, including but not limited to the 2022 film Skinamarink, YouTube horror series 2h32, the song "EXACTLY WHAT YOU RUN FROM YOU END UP CHASING" by Tyler, The Creator, and the 2014 film It Follows.

Whispers of Motion

My project is a small kinetic art sculpture made using wood, bearings, and magnets. The sculpture is designed to stay in motion through the force of magnetic repulsion and attraction, creating continuous, mesmerizing movement. I used a bandsaw and drill to shape and build the wooden components, and strategically placed magnets to generate ongoing motion without the need for a motor. The result is a piece that looks simple but moves in an unexpected, almost magical way.

This project mainly reflects Aesthetics & Creative Thinking, as it required me to think outside the box to combine art with physics. I had to carefully design the sculpture so that it was visually interesting and functionally balanced. Figuring out how to make the movement smooth and continuous using only magnets and bearings pushed me to experiment with different layouts and forms. I also learned about how small changes in placement can have a big impact on motion.

This project also touches on the Application & Creation of Knowledge-especially in how I applied concepts of magnetism and balance in a hands-on, creative way. I discovered how much planning goes into making something appear effortless. I'm still curious about how to enhance the sculpture's motion further and maybe even explore other natural forces like wind or gravity in future projects.

The project I am presenting, "Casita Chiquita," meaning tiny house in Spanish, is a ceramic miniature house. The house represents the aesthetics that I usually tend to like. It has elements I would use to describe my dream house. I would say that it shows a lot of what I can do creatively. With this project I learned to rekindle the artist within me. Ceramics is a skill I thought I lost and with this piece I learned it was never lost. I just needed to fine tune my skills. Aesthetics & Creative Thinking would be best represented in my project. In this drawing I just wanted to draw whatever that came to mind, and I wanted to draw something that focused on the face of the character since I wanted to practice facial expressions. This character does not exist, and I just made him up on spot, I wanted to create something myself without looking at any references and just use my imagination to guide me through it. I wanted to use the skills I learned so far. I discovered where my skills are at currently, and I want to continue to further develop these skills. Something I'm curious about after completing my project is in learning to draw things out of my comfort zone.

In my second drawing I just wanted to have fun in drawing a character from a manga, that I have been reading, I liked the character design so I decided to draw him. I went out of my comfort zone of only drawing faces and drew his clothes and a complicating angle of his face and hair, because I only knew how to draw it from the front. If I want to improve I need to draw something new to me that is a bit challenging.

I recently built a coffee table using leftover materials from past projects, and it turned out to be one of my favorite pieces. The tabletop is made from repurposed wood, mostly pine, Sedar, and redwood, which I arranged into a style that highlights the natural contrast. I gave the wood a light sanding to smooth out but kept most of its original character, including some nicks that add to the rustic charm. To finish it off, I applied a clear coat that protects the surface from the sun.

The base of the table is where the industrial character shines through. I used leftover metal tubing for the legs and added sections of rebar running across the width underneath for extra support. The contrast between the warm wood top and the cool, raw metal base gives the table a unique rustic and industrial design blend. The table is solid and

Dreamscape- Turning Dreams into an Artwork

As the title portrays my project will be about turning dreams into different forms of art. For that to happen, I will be taking different dreamlike scenes from my mind and transforming it into illustrations.

For the project, I'm presenting all four of my pieces of artwork using one of the Guiding Principles of Learning: "Aesthetics and Critical Thinking". This principle is an example for my project because my artworks are explorations of the human imagination by studying the different types of dreams I possess and expressing them through paper or canvas. I like using dreams because since dreams can sometimes be chaotic, they can also have meaning as well. Studying those dreams becomes a thought process and it transforms into a combination of ideas that I use all at once to turn into a work of art. Usually when that happens it comes out either simple or messy. Or both. And that's a good thing.

But I have noticed that there are two other principles that are shown in my project. The principle, "Ethical and Growth Wellness", can be seen through each piece since it shows how much I learned and improved during my years as an art student. Another one of the Guiding Principles of Learning that I examined would be "Analytical Reasoning and Metacognition” because I have been through situations where I had to have critical thinking in order to solve problems while painting/drawing. Overall, it's interesting to see how I learned that these principles connect to my work since I normally display different tones and moods such as creepy, soothing, silly, curiosity, etc. It helps knowing that I could use the principles of learning for future projects that could hopefully motivate other students to learn as well.

I will be showcasing a small collection of poems I have created throughout my time at Arizona Western College. I would say my poems fall under the Aesthetics & Creative Thinking category. Throughout each one, I am creatively displaying my thoughts and feelings with poetry as my outlet. Each poem is about love as well, a topic familiar with everyone whether it be platonically or romantically. Some poems were created as projects for my writing classes, and through those projects I have explored different writing techniques and stories about love such as Zora Neale Hurston's, Their Eyes Were Watching God. I believe that students deserve to work on both creative projects while focusing on their school work as well. This presentation revolves around sharing my writing journey as a student, the works I share were created when I was still doing midterms, finals, or work for other classes unrelated to English. Writing is one of many creative outlets and without a way to freely express myself or to share the ideas my imagination comes up with, I would not be satisfied. Every single person deserves their own creative outlet, whether it be art, dancing, whatever it may be, everyone deserves it. Overall, I'd like to share my work with the world. My creative thinking may inspire others or it may be relatable, and as long as one person can feel inspired to write work of their own, that's what matters.

The project I am presenting for the Student Showcase exemplifies my understanding and expression of Aesthetics & Creative Thinking by demonstrating the potential of creating a full sound with the MIDI board being the only instrument. The aesthetic shown in my cover of the Pani Poni Dash! opening song is Science Fiction, which is one of the genres of the anime and the inspiration for the instruments used in my arrangement. I created the cover by hand, note by note, and referenced every part by ear. Making a MIDI is not just a technological instrument, but a creative outlet with a variety of sounds and instrument samples to choose from.

This could also somewhat apply to Application & Creation of Knowledge because I had to apply the knowledge of MIDI that I knew in order to create the song cover. The project required knowledge of basic music theory and familiarity with the Online Sequencer program, which was the tool I used to create it. Online Sequencer is a free online site that allows its community to make sequences or music of their choice, to which I chose the anime opening. This song had not been on the site until I created it all by myself.

Book Demo: Amaru Chapter 1

This is a passion project about a book I am currently working on, The Demo will be only chapter one. Chapter one is called Amaru. In the neon-lit chaos of New Dog City, a monstrous horror rampages through the streets, leaving carnage in its wake. As citizens flee in terror, the KPH dispatches its most unpredictable asset: Amaru, the Spider Horror. Infamous and feared even among her allies, Amaru takes pleasure in the hunt, dispatching the beast with unsettling glee.

Yet, the public's reaction is far from grateful. To them, she is just another nightmare one controlled by the agency meant to protect them. Agent Tyson, her long-suffering handler, arrives on the scene, barely concealing his frustration. Despite their clashing personalities, they board their worn-down KPH ship and set off, only to be confronted by a grim reality: The world still sees Amaru as nothing more than a monster.

As they leave the chaos behind, tensions rise between the two. Tyson questions Amaru's motives-why does she fight? What does she truly want? Amaru deflects, instead gazing into the cosmic abyss, contemplating the forgotten gods and the harsh truths of their existence. But philosophical musings must wait. Their ship is low on fuel, and their next stop? A distant space station, where danger may lurk beyond just empty tanks and bad fast food.

With bloodstained hands, a sharp tongue, and a fractured mind, Amaru's journey has only just begun.

My project is a mixed media artwork with a vibrant, subjective color pallet of a lady with zombie/Frankenstein-like features posed with exaggerated expression.

The guiding principle I believe it falls into is Aesthetics & Creative Thinking. The artwork focuses on the beauty and movement of a human inspired body, with exaggerated features as is my personal style. I was inspired by a handful of fantasy, horror, and monster artists which taught me to develop figures and features in an imaginative, yet nearly believable way. I learned to balance realism just enough that it fits the theme while not sacrificing my own imagination. It shows how I gained an appreciation for color, deep, vibrant, yet not garish. Throughout the process I pulled from my own creativity, working out how to apply that color, how to stretch the figure to it's limit on the paper, and applied learned art principles while maintaining the original idea's fluidity.

Another Principle could be Analytical Reasoning & Metacognition, for how I approached obstacles, and mistakes by letting them become a part of the art instead of wasting potential by trying to cover them up. As well as taking the initiative to use online resources to work around an anatomical or perspective related problem. Another might be Collaboration and Inclusion, as I sought out help through real life colleagues, teachers, and resources to further the project.

I gained quite a bit of skill in fluid motions and line confidence due to this project. I was also able to apply what I learned of perspective to create a cohesive background element, learning to use implied detail to make it fuller without wasting time and energy worrying about it being perfect. This project is one where I began to diverge from strict boundaries and conformity, which has allowed my school and personal projects afterward to feel very personal and unchained.

One aspect that still confounds me, and I am curious about researching to gain this skill, is fluid motion and color cohesion. I have struggled with stiff feeling lines, and scratchy sketches that somehow seemed to dissipate over these last few semesters in all aspects of my art. This, and the other projects in this series, have confronted me with color and motion I wasn't comfortable with before. It's something I still wish to work on. Another is the theme; a sort of dark fantasy/fiction aspect that I've been too afraid to approach. I hope I may delve further into the intricacies of darker artworks both in theme and in medium.

Video games are often dismissed as activities that require little skill or situational awareness, but this notion is far from the truth. In my video montage for Super Smash Bros Ultimate, I demonstrate how careful planning, strategic thinking, and creative execution help players succeed, even in games traditionally regarded as casual entertainment. This project is my attempt to showcase how video games can serve as a platform for liberty, creativity, and talent.

In the context of fighting games such as Smash Bros, a combo is defined as "...short for combination, a sequence of attacks that is guaranteed (or very likely) to occur if the first attack hits the enemy" (Smash Wiki, par. 1). Even when combos are not strictly “true” or guaranteed, the elements of reads, anticipation, and reaction allow gamers to exhibit impressive feats of coordination, skill, and talent. In my montage, the choice of music and its precise synchronization with key gameplay moments heightens the emotional impact while underscoring the refined aesthetics of competitive gaming. I intended to illustrate a progression from beginner to expert levels—emphasizing both the natural evolution of a player's skill and the intrinsic artistry in executing unconventional yet effective combinations. These unexpected elements challenge viewers to reconsider the traditional narrative of gameplay and reveal new dimensions of technical excellence.

The societal impact of video games is significant. In 2020 alone, the global population of gamers reached 2.7 billion-a figure that has grown by over 6% from the previous year. While research has often centered on the negative effects of video games, such as promoting violence, an expanding body of work now highlights their positive impacts on cognitive, motivational, emotional, and social skills. Among these, creativity stands out as an essential 21st-century skill: it is the capacity to produce work that is both original and contextually relevant (Mercier and Lubart, par. 1-3, and 5). Creativity, which has been associated with landmark achievements from Marie Curie's scientific discoveries to Beethoven's symphonies and Picasso's paintings, is not confined to grand historical milestones-it manifests in everyday endeavors, including professional work and, as I argue, gaming.

Video games, by their very nature, present a spectrum of challenges from the precise timing required in platformers like Super Mario Bros. to the relentless competitive spirit found in first-person shooters. In these environments, hope, resilience, and an optimistic attitude are indispensable. The adversity inherent in gameplay compels players to see setbacks as temporary and surmountable, ultimately rewarding persistence with success and growth.

Beyond technique and strategy, the aesthetic dimension of video games contributes to their lasting impact. The visual beauty and emotional resonance of these digital landscapes, characters, and stories transform gameplay into a multisensory experience that evokes powerful memories. The interplay of compelling music, cinematic visuals, and meticulously crafted sequences can ignite an inner flame one that propels a cascade of emotions and memories, reminiscent of the soaring heights of a mountain or the boundless expanse of the moon and stars (Britton, par. 1-2, and 8).

In conclusion, my montage is not merely a compilation of gameplay moments, but a deliberate exploration of the creative, strategic, and aesthetic values inherent in video gaming. By emphasizing thoughtful planning, innovative execution, and an emotional narrative, it challenges preconceived notions about the skill and artistry behind competitive gaming. Through this project, I hope viewers will appreciate that even what may seem like simple or casual gameplay can reveal layers of complexity, creativity, and technical mastery. I still look forward to the opportunity of enhancing my combo game, but also improving my movement, option selection, and reaction time, things that could even be translated to other aesthetic and art fields such as music.
