
Join AWC on Oct. 31 for a Catrinas and Catrines contest
October 23, 2024Yuma, Ariz. (October 24, 2024) – On October 31st, Arizona Western College will celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with a Catrinas and Catrines contest.
Whether you are competing or simply want to celebrate Mexican tradition at this exciting competition, all are welcome to attend. The first place winner will be awarded $400, second place $300, third place $200, and People’s Choice $100.
“As a Hispanic-serving institution, we proudly create events that enrich our culture,” shared Martha Cordova, Director of Transfer Services at AWC. “Las Catrinas is an amazing event where students can express and show their creativity.”
The event is open to the community and will be held from 3 - 4 p.m. on October 31 in the 3C Breezeway of the AWC Yuma Campus. A campus map can be found here.
Those participating in the contest must register before the event at this link and promptly check in at 2:30 p.m. in the Francis Morris Conference Room of the 3C Building.
The Day of the Dead celebration is hosted by AWC in collaboration with the Consulate of Mexico in Yuma and the Yuma County Arts and Cultural Group.
