La Paz County high school graduates eligible for program upon completion of associate degree

Parker, AZ (September 3, 2019) – Arizona Western College has made a big commitment to the residents of La Paz County.

Starting with the class of 2019, high school graduates who enroll at AWC as full-time students and complete their associate degree within five consecutive semesters can be reimbursed for the entire cost of tuition and program fees as part of the new La Paz Promise.

In order to qualify for the program, students must begin attending AWC within one semester of graduating from a La Paz County high school and are required to take at least 12 credits per semester. To continue to remain eligible, students need to maintain a letter grade of a “C” or higher in their classes and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above.

“I see a wonderful incentive for La Paz graduates to earn their degree potentially debt-free and to continue their academic or career journey with the dollars returned upon successful completion of their transfer degree,” said Katheline Ocampo, AWC Associate Dean for La Paz County Services. “The La Paz Promise demonstrates the value of investing in students and their success.”

Participants are required to complete their FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as part of the application process for the La Paz Promise. The portion of tuition that qualifies for reimbursement is any amount not covered by third party scholarships, PELL grants, or AWC Foundation scholarships.

Credit hours earned prior to this agreement are not eligible for reimbursement. Additionally, the program does not cover college-related fees such as textbooks, transportation costs, or living expenses.

Students must apply for tuition reimbursement within one year of finishing their associate degree.
