Dr. Hikmet Budak to serve as guest editor for the International Journal of Molecular Sciences
July 23, 2026Yuma, Ariz. (July 23, 2026) – Arizona Western College Director of Agriculture Dr. Hikmet Budak has been invited to launch a special issue of the International Journal of Molecular Sciences as a Guest Editor.
“This special issue aims to address critical global food security challenges by transforming vast amounts of biological data into practical solutions for farmers,” Dr. Budak said. “A comprehensive collection of cutting-edge computational tools and genetic knowledge will contribute to the development of sustainable food systems.”
This special collection, titled “Plant Genomics and Genome Editing,” will present groundbreaking research, sophisticated computational models, and innovative applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Agricultural Technology (AgTech) tools to develop the next generation of resilient crops capable of adapting to climate change and thriving in challenging environments. By employing AI/ML algorithms on genomic sequencing and identifying key genes, researchers can swiftly identify traits that enable plants to withstand adverse conditions such as salinity, heat stress, and drought before resorting to precise genome editing techniques.
Dr. Budak’s appointment as a guest editor for this special issue reflects both the quality of his research and the influence of his leadership in plant genomics. His dedication to collaborative scientific research continues to shape the future of agriculture and drive solutions for a more sustainable world.
Dr. Budak also sits on the editorial board for BMC Genomics, PLOS One, and in silico Plants.
