English faculty gather for annual symposium
February 9, 2026Yuma, Ariz. (February 9, 2025) – Last month, Arizona Western College English Department faculty met for the annual English Symposium to share scholarly presentations, pedagogical approaches, and updates on AI integration.
"The day went very well,” shared Professor Daniel Herrera, who coordinated the event. “We had great presentations on Translanguaging by Prof. Bianca Melendrez and an analysis of Manga by Prof. Sean Farrel. Many great discussions came out of it and we look forward to the next symposium."
The English Symposium began in 2016 under the direction of Professor Edward Schubert and has since been led by Professor David Kern, and now Professor Herrera. It provides a forum for English faculty to collaborate on best practices that support student success and stay current in instructional methods and curriculum.
The symposium is not closed to AWC faculty. Students and community members interested in joining this opportunity to collaborate are invited to watch for next year's flyer.
