
AWC welcomes Scott Gross as new Sports Information Director
September 17, 2025Yuma, Ariz. (September 17, 2025) – Arizona Western College is pleased to welcome Scott Gross as the new Sports Information Director for the Matadors.
The former KYMA-TV News Anchor and Sports Director will take over the role of promoting Matador Athletics, which includes sports play-by-play for all Matador home games, reporting game statistics, updating rosters and schedules, managing sponsorships, and sharing stories of current and former athletes with local media and the community. He will also serve as the Assistant Athletic Director.
“We are excited to have Scott join our team as a MATADOR,” said Athletic Director Jerry Smith. “Scott brings a new perspective to the campus as he has worked in the community for the past four years. He is really fitting into the Matador life in our community.”
In his nearly 30 years of experience in broadcast journalism, Gross has worked as a play-by-play announcer and sports director, covered DI and DII collegiate athletics as the voice of the St. Cloud State University sports teams on the college radio station, and worked as a sports anchor and weather forecaster with KYMA/KECY-TV in Yuma prior to becoming the Sports Director.
"I'm excited to be a part of Arizona Western College. Back in sports full time,” Gross shared. “Arizona Western is one of the best colleges around when it comes to sports and campus culture. It's an exciting time for Arizona Western and I am thrilled to be a part of it."
Gross boasts numerous awards for sports content and reporting, most notably a Rocky Mountain Southwest Emmy award for his work on a local story in 2024.
When he has down time, Gross enjoys attending AWC athletic events as well as any high school games across Yuma and Imperial County. Scott's favorite professional teams are the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Arizona Diamondbacks. Scott also enjoys traveling, seeing and trying new things, playing some pickleball and most of all, coaching and watching his kids perform in their sporting events.
Gross and his better half, Ann, have a blended family which includes Kurt, Jason, Amaya, Julius, and Kirstin.
