Arizona Western College Welcomes Chief Information Officer to Campus


The principles of providing value to the community we serve motivated Arizona Western College’s new Chief Information Officer to relocate the Desert Southwest. Joe McLain stepped into a new position and a new leadership role at Arizona Western College in mid-August.

After sixteen years at University of California Santa Barbara McLain began exploring other options that highlight his leadership skills which he fine-tuned while in the Army. McLain says he developed a passion for leadership while deployed as the Company First Sergeant in a Civil Affairs battalion.

A Majority of the AWC Massage Therapy Program Graduates Stay in the Yuma Community


Angela Carrillo, President of Fluid Energies Therapeutic Massage, Inc. and her sister, Diana Valerie Robledo, graduated from AWC’s Massage Therapy Program in 2009 and have since opened their own practice in Yuma. The sisters are proud of their time in the program, which they completed in two years. After having successful careers in cosmetology and barbering, they later decided to explore another option together. 

AWC Informatics Program has reached an Important Milestone


First Cohort of Students Enrolled for fall 2017

The required number of students needed to form the first cohort of the Informatics program at Arizona Western College have been enrolled for the fall 2017 semester. It is expected that as information is distributed, and students realize the benefits of completing an Informatics degree, enrollment numbers will continue to increase each year.

9th Annual Non-Traditional Career Conference at AWC


The Arizona Western College Career and Technical Education Division and the Arizona Western College Office of Early College Experiences will be having their 9th Annual AWC Non-Traditional Careers Conference on Friday, September 22 from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm on AWC’s Yuma Campus. 

AWC Welcomes New Vice President of Finance and Administrative Service


Arizona Western College welcomed a new Vice President of Finance and Administrative Services this summer.  Shahrooz Roohparvar joined AWC following Carole Coleman’s retirement in late 2016. AWC marks Roohparvar’s entry in public education arena after 16 years in corporate work.

Roohparvar earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Management in Economics with an emphasis in Accounting from University of California Santa Cruz and a Masters of Business Management with a Dual Emphasis in Finance and Supply Chain Management from the University of La Verne. 

AWC, YPG to Host Public Safety Speaker


School and Workplace Safety Public Presentation Announced

On Monday, September 11, Arizona Western College and U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground will partner on a public safety event. Ms. Kristina Anderson, professional speaker, director of Koshka Foundation for Safe Schools, and survivor of the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting will offer a 90-minute public presentation and take questions from the audience.

The 3:00 p.m. event will be held in the Schoening Conference Center on the Yuma campus of AWC, in the College Community Center (3C).

AWC Massage Therapy Program Donates Over 80 Cases of Water to the Yuma Community Food Bank


Yuma, AZ (August 7, 2017)-During the month of July, the Arizona Western College (AWC) Massage Therapy Program collected cases of water donated by clients.  On Monday, August 7, 2017, over 80 cases of water were donated to the Yuma Community Food Bank (YCFB).  The program also accepted a special $15 fee for massages thru the month of July…and those proceeds collected went to the AWC Student Massage Clinic.  These funds helped support scholarships and extra-curricular activities.

Open Call for Art Submissions

Yuma, AZ (August 2, 2017)-The San Luis Library and Arizona Western College San Luis Learning Center announces their Fourth Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Art Exhibition “Origins”.  The exhibit will run from September 14 through October 14, 2017 at the San Luis Library (1075 N. 6th Avenue, San Luis, AZ 85349).  The opening ceremony will be on September 14 at 4:00pm.
