Fifth graders become college students for a day


Yuma, AZ (November 8, 2022) – Before they even step foot onto a middle school campus, fifth-grade students are getting the opportunity to have the full college experience at Arizona Western College.

For over a decade, AWC has invited fifth graders to become college students for a day through the I’m Going to College event. On Thursday, Nov. 3, a group of 142 students from Yuma Elementary District One schools, O.C. Johnson Elementary and Dorothy Hall Elementary, participated in the program.

AWC makes Family Development Credential accessible for working adults


Courses to be offered on Fridays and Saturdays in Spring 2023

Yuma, AZ (November 3, 2022) – Arizona Western College is making a Family Development Credential more accessible for working individuals by offering courses on Fridays and Saturdays in the spring of 2023.

The AWC Family Studies Department made the change to a weekend course schedule in an effort to better serve those working in social services at locations like Chicanos Por La Causa, WACOG, Head Start, and more.

AWC, Arizona Commerce Authority help secure $15 million to connect dislocated workers to jobs


Yuma, AZ (November 2, 2022) – New resources are being made available to help long-term unemployed individuals, dislocated workers, and workers impacted by the pandemic. Through a federal grant, workers will have access to skills training, career pathways, and job opportunities. As part of this initiative, Arizona Western College is delivering on the needs of its communities through workforce development and partnerships in Arizona.

Community Band to present Fall Concert


Yuma, AZ (October 13, 2022) – The Arizona Western College Community Band will be holding its Fall Concert on Monday, Oct. 17.

The title of the concert is “Summer Suite” and it will feature seven pieces. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. in the Schoening Conference Center located in the 3C Building at the AWC Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Ave. 8E.

The community is invited to attend this free concert. Donations will be accepted.

Students complete Restaurant Startup Boot Camp at no cost through Yuma Food Business Incubator pilot program


Future courses to be offered through AWC Continuing Education

Yuma, AZ (October 7, 2022) – Arizona Western College teamed up with the Local First Arizona Foundation this summer to provide aspiring food entrepreneurs with the unique opportunity to grow their food business through a Restaurant Startup Boot Camp.
