Annual Christmas Gala set for Nov. 29


Yuma, AZ (November 14, 2018) – Arizona Western College choir, band, orchestra, and piano students and faculty will be performing at the annual Christmas Gala on Thursday, Nov. 29.

“The audience can expect to hear arrangements of familiar Christmas classics, as well as more unfamiliar or exotic selections from the various ensembles,” said Shawn Pollard, AWC Professor of Instrumental Music.

Pollard added that the community is in for an enjoyable performance, as students will be performing a culmination of music they’ve been working on all semester.

El Toro Bowl Teams Announced


Yuma, AZ (November 13, 2018) – Two top-20 teams are set to collide once again in the El Toro Bowl. Since its return in 2011, the game has featured teams from all around the country, and 2018 will be no different. This year’s version will pit the sixth-ranked Lackawanna Falcons (10-0) against the 19th ranked Arizona Western College Matadors (6-4) on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 1 p.m.

AWC Fine Arts presents The Radio Active Variety Show


Yuma, AZ (November 12, 2018) – The Arizona Western College Fine Arts Department is teaming up to present music and theater to the community during The Radio Active Variety Show.

An annual fundraiser for scholarships, this year’s event will celebrate Irving Berlin: A Century of Song, featuring vocal and band music as well as short theatrical sketches and conversations in the style of a 1930’s radio show.

The shows will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 2:30 p.m. at the AWC Theatre, 2020 S. Ave. 8E.

Race to benefit AWC’s Patriots Gold Heart Fund


Yuma, AZ (November 8, 2018) - Arizona Western College is holding their 5th Annual Freedom Run, Walk & Roll 5K on Saturday, Nov. 17, to raise money for the Patriots Gold Heart Fund.
 
“The fund benefits veterans and their families at AWC when they are in need of financial assistance. Not all veterans are eligible for VA educational benefits, and sometimes they need a little help with school supplies, books and tuition,” said Gabriela Siqueiros, Coordinator of Veteran Services at AWC.

StoryCorps announces 2019 Mobile Tour stop in Yuma


Yuma, AZ (November 8, 2018) – Yuma was announced today as the final stop on the 2019 StoryCorps Mobile Tour. KAWC will welcome the national storytelling organization to record, preserve, and share conversations from Yuma and La Paz counties that will be archived for future generations at the American Folklife Center in the Library of Congress.

“We are the smallest station, by far, scheduled for the tour, so this is a big deal,” said KAWC Director of Development Alice Ferris.

Transfer & Career Expo to highlight Education, Public Safety, and Health


Parker, AZ (November 7, 2018) – Arizona Western College will be holding a Transfer & Career Expo on Thursday, Nov. 15, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Parker Community Center, 1109 S. Geronimo Ave. Ste. B. The expo will focus on Education, Public Safety, Health and more opportunities for current and prospective students.

AWC/NAU Science Club to host Annual Blood Drive


Yuma, AZ (November 6, 2018) – Come out and support AWC/NAU Science Club’s efforts to give back to the community this holiday season during their 3rd Annual Blood Drive.

The drive will take place Tuesday, Nov. 13, and Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Schoening Conference Center at the AWC Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Ave. 8E.
