Upward Bound students to volunteer at Children’s Festival of the Arts

October 23, 2019

Yuma, AZ (October 23, 2019) – Students in Upward Bound at Arizona Western College will be volunteering at the upcoming Children’s Festival of the Arts on Saturday, Nov. 2.

About 60 teens from the program will be stationed at various arts and crafts booths to help children create projects during the event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Main Street in Downtown Yuma. This will be the tenth year that Upward Bound students have assisted at the Children’s Festival of the Arts as a way to give back to the community. Participating students are from Parker, Kofa, Cibola, San Luis, and Yuma high schools.

Upward Bound is a federally funded grant program through the U.S. Department of Education for ninth through twelfth graders who will be first-generation college students and/or meet the federal low-income criteria. The program is designed to help students graduate from high school and continue on to college, ultimately earning a post-secondary degree.
