Race to Benefit AWC’s Patriots Gold Heart Fund

September 28, 2017

Yuma, AZ (September 28, 2017) - Arizona Western College is holding their 4th Annual Freedom Run, Walk & Roll 5K on Saturday, November 18, to raise money for the Patriots Gold Heart Fund.

“The fund benefits veterans and their families at AWC when they are in need of financial assistance. Not all veterans are eligible for VA educational benefits, and sometimes they need a little help with school supplies, books and tuition,” said Gabriela Siqueiros-Herwig, Coordinator of Veteran Services at AWC.

The race will start at 8 a.m. at AWC’s Charlie Dine Softball Field, 2020 S Avenue 8E. In-person registration will be held from 7 to 7:45 a.m. on the day of the event or people can also visit www.active.com to register online.

“It is a community event, all ages are welcome to attend,” said Siqueiros-Herwig. “Children, strollers, and friendly pets are welcome.”

Medals will be awarded for the first three finishers of the race.

The registration fee is $10 for military, veterans, spouses and dependents as well as for AWC students, faculty, and staff. Military, Veteran ID and/or AWC ID are required. All other registrants will be charged $20. The registration fees will go to directly benefit the Patriots Gold Heart Fund, which was established at AWC in 2014.

If individuals can’t attend the event, but they’d like to make a donation to the Patriots Gold Heart Fund, they can contact the AWC Foundation at AWC.Foundation@azwestern.edu and make a one-time donation or a payroll deduction.
