Nine Students Earned Scholarships at AWC’s Student Showcase

The General Education Curriculum Committee held their 9th Annual Student Showcase at Arizona Western College on May 10, 2017. Over seventy-five students participated and shared projects ranging from scientific posters, modern language presentations, business models, informational websites, dramatic readings, and mechanical projects, including a six-foot tall trebuchet!

For the third year, students participating in the Showcase were eligible to apply for $5000 in Showcase scholarships, generously provided by the Gowan Company.  Nine students earned Showcase scholarships in five general education focus areas:

  • Juan Guerrero        $1000  Quantitative Analysis
  • Tuan Nguyen          $1000  Digital Literacy
  • Sarah Shepard       $1000  Scientific Literacy
  • Melissa Reese        $500    Digital Literacy
  • Nadia Rangel          $500   Communication
  • Pamela Pircaro       $250    Digital Literacy
  • Alicia Luna              $250    Civic Discourse
  • Hector Rubio           $250    Scientific Literacy
  • Marissa Alvarez .    $250    Quantitative Analysis

Several recipients will apply their scholarships to completing AWC coursework, while others will use their scholarships to support their transfer to universities across the state.

The AWC General Education Curriculum Committee congratulates the Showcase scholarship recipients and all the students who helped make the 2017 Student Showcase a great success.
