Community invited to Quechan cultural event featuring documentary screening, Q&A

Presentation held in partnership with Quechan Tribe, AWC, NAU 

Yuma, AZ (December 20, 2022) – Arizona Western College will be hosting an upcoming documentary screening and Q&A presented by Quechan elders Dan Golding and Preston Arrow-weed.

The free event is open to the community and will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19, at the Arizona Western College Theater, 2020 S. Ave 8E.

The Hokan Media films “Journey from Spirit Mountain” and “Songs of the Colorado” tell the stories of the Quechan/Kumeyaay people and speak to the importance of the preservation and continuance of the Yuman language. Issues of human rights, personal identity, and social justice are also discussed in the films.

Attendees are invited for a Q&A session following the screening.

The presentation is being held in partnership with the Quechan Tribe, Arizona Western College, and Northern Arizona University.
