Catrinas and Catrines Contest to be held Nov. 2

Prizes awarded for top three winners

Yuma, AZ (October 19, 2023) – Come enjoy a Catrinas and Catrines Contest, where you can show off your best Day of the Dead outfits and makeup at Arizona Western College on Thursday, Nov. 2. 

The event is open to the community and will be held from 3:00pm-4:00pm in the 3C Breezeway at the AWC Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Ave. 8E. Those participating in the contest must register here and arrive at 2:00pm. The first place winner will be awarded $300, second place $200, and third place $100.

“Come join us for a fun event celebrating the vibrant Mexican tradition of Catrinas and Catrines, embracing who we are as a Hispanic Serving Institution,” said AWC Director of Transfer Services Martha Cordova. “Get ready to witness a parade of stunningly dressed participants showcasing their finest Day of the Dead attire. Immerse yourself in the colorful atmosphere and enjoy the lively music, delicious food, and exciting activities. Whether you choose to participate or simply admire the creativity, this event promises to be a magnificent experience for all.”

AWC is presenting this unique Day of the Dead celebration in collaboration with the Consulate of Mexico in Yuma and the Yuma County Arts and Cultural Group.
