AWC students and leadership advocate at State Capitol
February 26, 2026Phoenix, Ariz. (February 26, 2026) – Representatives from Arizona Western College leadership and student body recently met with Arizona legislators at the State Capitol to discuss AWC programs and the upcoming 2027 budget.
Students shared about their experiences at AWC, reflecting AWC’s CTE and Nursing programs as they met with Senators Tim Dunn (LD25) and Brian Fernandez (LD23), Representatives Michele Peña (LD23) and Mariana Sandoval (LD23), and members of the Arizona Governor's Office.
Representing AWC leadership in these conversations were Dean of CTE and Nursing Cinthia Reyes, Vice President for Advancement Lori Stofft, Chief Executive Officer and Vice President of Workforce & Healthcare Programs Dr. Reetika Dhawan, and President Dr. Daniel Corr.
"It was an honor to meet with our state legislators to showcase not only Arizona Western College programs, but some of our amazing students as well,” commented Dr. Corr. “AWC plays a vital role in the state’s economy and workforce, and it is through decisive legislative action that we can ensure these opportunities continue to grow in the coming year."
AWC requested funding to support workforce development initiatives to better meet the industry demands of Yuma and La Paz Counties.
