AWC English professor shares research at national composition convention

March 11, 2026

Cleveland, Ohio. (March 11, 2026) – Arizona Western College English professor Dr. Weena McKenzie recently returned from speaking at the Conference on College Composition and Communication’s (CCCC) annual convention in Cleveland, Ohio. CCCC is the world’s largest professional organization for researching and teaching composition.

On Thursday, March 5, Dr. McKenzie presented as part of a panel titled “Enhancing First-Year Writing Instruction at Hispanic-Serving Institutions with Corpus-Informed Pedagogy,” drawing from her experiences at AWC and sharing activities developed during her participation in the Corpus & Repository of Writing (CROW) research project through the University of Arizona.

"CCCC provided a meaningful opportunity to meet and interact with my fellow English professors and researchers," Dr. McKenzie shared. "I was particularly inspired by the Chair's Address, in which Dr. Kofi Adisa reminded attendees to consider the human impact of our decisions. Adisa's address showed 'how we can help students find their writing voices by first finding the music in them.'"

Dr. McKenzie’s participation reflects AWC’s commitment to evidence-based teaching practices and continuous professional growth. By engaging in national scholarly conversations, AWC faculty continue to ensure students benefit from current research and innovative classroom practices.
