AWC breaking ground on new Student Experience Center

Yuma, AZ (August 11, 2022) – Arizona Western College is celebrating the start of construction on its new two-story, 45,000 square-foot Student Experience Center with a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, August 17, at 7:30 a.m. The facility is projected to open its doors in the Fall of 2023.
While the official name of the building is still under consideration, the space is set to support multiple instructional modalities, shared common areas, conference rooms, Maker Space, esports, an eatery option, the Honors Program, IT Services, TV Services/Broadcasting with KAWC, Andale’s Pantry, and a game room.
“This facility will serve the next generation and contribute to the student experience at Arizona Western College for generations to come,” said AWC President Dr. Daniel Corr.

The Student Experience Center is being built by McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. and is being paid for through board-approved revenue bonds for the college’s capital building efforts. Revenue bonds do not raise taxes for local taxpayers in Yuma and La Paz County; instead, they guarantee revenue to pay off bonds.
“McCarthy’s Yuma construction team is thrilled to be part of bringing the new Student Experience Center to AWC and supporting the college’s commitment to the student experience,” said Jakob Lund, project manager for McCarthy’s Education Group. “Located in the center of campus, the new building will become a new hub that further enhances student engagement opportunities and provides the programs being located there with beautiful new space for students, faculty, and staff. It’s pretty exciting!”
