Event Details
This year One Book Yuma is showcasing two poetry collections by AWC faculty Arturo Magaña Amaya and Sugar le Fae. Both collections highlight the beauty in ordinary life. Nostalgias of November is a collection that draws from the poet's memories and experiences growing up in Somerton, AZ. While The Mustard Seed is a nuanced, funny, biting reflection on American consumerism and the commiseration among service workers.
Sugar le Fae: Activist, educator, and prize-winning poet, Sugar le Fae (PhD) has taught English Composition, Creative Writing, and Literature for over 20 years; served as a Poetry Editor of Five Points (2020), PRISM international (2013), and other literary journals; and published widely, including two poetry collections, The Mustard Seed (April Gloaming Press, 2023) and Broken Lines (Rebel Satori Press, 2024).
Arturo Magaña Amaya: Arturo grew up on the U.S.- México border. He earned his BA and BS at Arizona State University and his MA at Northern Arizona University. While at NAU, he conducted anthropology research with fishing communities struggling for fishing rights in México. More recently, he worked in human rights with people who lost loved ones crossing the border. Nostalgias of November is his first collection of poems. Mimbres Press presents his book in a bilingual format.
Other Yuma community poets will also present their works at the event alongside these two poets.
