Yuma, AZ (January 23, 2020) – Bestselling author and award-winning filmmaker Sara Vladic will be visiting Arizona Western College on Tuesday, Feb. 25, to present on a book she co-authored, “Indianapolis: The True Story of the Worst Sea Disaster in U.S. Naval History and the Fifty-Year Fight to Exonerate an Innocent Man.”
For the better part of a century, the story of USS Indianapolis has been understood as a sinking tale. The reality, however, is far more complicated – and compelling. Now, for the first time, thanks to a decade of original research and interviews with 107 survivors and eyewitnesses, Sara Vladic and Lynn Vincent tell the complete story of the ship, her crew, and their final mission to save one of their own.
The One Book Yuma event is open to the public and made possible through a partnership between the AWC/Northern Arizona University Academic Library, Yuma County Library District, and Friends of the Yuma County Libraries.
Vladic’s presentation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Theatre Building of the AWC Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Ave. 8E. Her presentation will conclude with a Q&A and book signing.
The book is available for sale at the AWC Bookstore as well as at the event. The book is also available on loan at the Yuma County Library and the AWC/NAU-Yuma Academic Library.
In addition to the AWC event, Vladic will also be at the Yuma Main Library, 2951 S. 21st Dr., earlier in the day on Feb. 25, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. for a book discussion, Q&A, and book signing. The community is invited to meet Vladic and learn more about her book at both free events.
One Book Yuma is a literacy and humanities program aimed at engaging our community in dialog about pertinent, topical and timely issues important to our region and the world beyond.
