ASU student attributes higher education success to Upward Bound program
February 14, 2019Parker, AZ (February 14, 2019) – Robin Martinez Jr. always knew that he wanted to attend college, but as a first-generation student, higher education seemed more like a distant dream than an attainable goal.
That all changed when he became a part of the Arizona Western College Upward Bound program as a freshman at Parker High School.
“Being a first-generation student, I had no one to guide me along the winding pathways that lead to college. Upward Bound became that guide for me,” he said.
ASU’s American Dream Academy partners with AWC & YUHSD to get more students to college

Yuma, AZ (December 11, 2018) – Arizona State University’s American Dream Academy has ventured out of the Phoenix metropolitan area for the first time in the program’s 12-year history to partner with Arizona Western College and the Yuma Union High School District. The program acts as an additional support to help students and their families through the process of graduating from high school and continuing on to higher education.
Governor Ducey names AWC President Corr to State Board
May 18, 2017Dr. Daniel P. Corr, Arizona Western College’s 9th President, has been named one of four new appointees to the Arizona State Board of Education by Governor Doug Ducey.
“I look forward to contributing to the advancement of education for all of Arizona’s citizens. I intend to be a vocal advocate in support of the vital role community colleges play in Arizona as well as highlighting the challenges unique to K-12 schools in rural Arizona,” said Dr. Corr.
