Senator Kelly staff visit AWC

Yuma, AZ (July 5, 2023) – Arizona Western College leaders had an opportunity to meet with a representative from Senator Mark Kelly’s Office during a recent visit to the Yuma Campus.

On Tuesday, June 27, Katherine Phillips, Legislative Assistant to Senator Kelly, toured the campus and engaged with college leaders about the needs of the institution and ways to address those needs at the state and national level. Discussion focused on congressional funding requests and future programming interests of Senator Kelly that would impact the state in a meaningful way. Topics included conversations surrounding veterans workforce funding, a healthcare/telehealth certification program, STEM Ecosystems Act/workforce development, CHIPS Act Programs, and water efficiency programs.

Attendees during these discussions included AWC Chief of Staff Ashley Herrington, AWC Government Relations Lobbyist Alexis Susdorf of State48 Public Affairs, and representatives from the Arizona Western Entrepreneurial College including Executive Director and Dean of Healthcare Programs Dr. Joann Chang, Director of Nursing Cinthia Alvarez, and Director of Manufacturing Programs Jim Larson.
