Big Dreams

Cristina Rodriguez

What are you currently studying and what do you hope to achieve with that?

Right now I am studying Nursing and I am applying for the CNA program here at Arizona Western College.

And what brought you to AWC and not another college or university?

I’m at AWC because my parents and I recently moved to the Foothills in Yuma so that I can be closer to the campus and be part of the program.

Are you involved in any clubs around campus?

I am. I’m involved in several clubs around AWC, one of the clubs I’m in is GSA—Gay-Straight Alliance club, it’s an LGBT club at Arizona Western College. I’ve been with them since the fall of 2015 and I was in Business club as well and I’m in the Science club currently.

Who motivates you to continue working toward your goals?

I would say myself, my mother, my son, and my girlfriend, Britney. She’s no longer here, she passed away last year, so, I’m kind of dealing with that, but she pushes me to do greater.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In ten years, I hope to be a doctor. I hope that I apply for medical school and continue my journey of becoming a neurosurgeon.

I hope to apply for medical school and continue my journey of becoming a neurosurgeon.

What advice would you give someone who may find themselves in a similar situation as you?

The advice I would give is just to keep going and stay strong. Believe in yourself. It is tough out there in the world, but, with faith, hope, and love from family members and friends, you can make it
