Confirmed case of COVID, Student not on campusThis page was last updated on March 24th, 2020 @ 02:03 PM
Today I’m sharing with you the sobering news that a recently confirmed presumptive positive case of COVID-19 in Yuma County is an AWC student.
We are in touch with the student and their faculty. The student is in good spirits and currently recovering at home.
Based on the best information we have, the student was exposed to the virus after we transitioned to primarily online instruction. The student’s faculty and our campus technology log-in data all indicate that the student has not been on campus since March 12; the student’s presumed exposure date is March 14. The student is currently enrolled in classes that transitioned fully to online instruction and did not meet in person since March 12. The student did not live on campus.
Based on federal student privacy laws, we are not in a position to identify the student. I assure you that in any case of a positive diagnosis of COVID-19 where classmates and faculty or staff had a risk of exposure, we will work to notify all parties with potential contact.
The health and safety of our community remains our top priority, and we are committed to responding to the COVID-19 situation with transparency and timeliness. You can learn more about AWC’s response at www.azwestern.edu/covid.
Please join me in wishing our student a speedy and full recovery.
