Before we talk
How to get the most out of the design process
Allow enough time for your project. Most publications will take six to eight weeks from conception to final delivery; small jobs may take less time and major projects will take longer.
Make an appointment (or maybe just call) before coming to College Publications. Since we are juggling many jobs for many clients, we want to be able to give you our full attention.
Define the full scope of work when you meet with the designers. We will need an electronic and a hard copy of your text. We will start work on your job when we receive your content.
You will need to be available for proofing throughout the life of your project; be ready to make timely approval decisions.
Carefully check the final copy and design before it goes to print; changes after that will be expensive and will delay the project.
Off-campus printers require a purchase order before they will start your job. Start your requisition process early.
Things you’ll want to consider before submitting a publications request
Who are you trying to reach (what is your target audience?)
What is (are) the key message(s) you’re trying to communicate?
How will you measure the success of your publication?
How will you distribute your publication (what channels will you use)?
We offer materials handlers who can distribute posters and fliers around our community.
Have we done this publication before?
You should find a CP job number somewhere on the piece.
What mandatory information will you need to include?
All publications should incorporate the AWC logo and affirmative action/equal opportunity statement (if going off-campus); you might also need a return address, a bulk mailing stamp or the use of a special language.
Come prepared to describe your ideal publication to us.
We’ll want to hear your ideas; we’d love to see samples of other publications you admire.
