Course Description
Pre-Aviation Flight Simulation
AET-119

Introduction to flying and basic flight operations via simulation. Includes basic flight maneuvers, traffic patterns, departures, approaches, and emergency procedures under simulated flight conditions. Students will review regulations, cross-country flight planning, weight and balance, performance and limitations, human factors, chart use, night operations, navigation systems, and aeronautical decision making. At the end of this course, students will be able to take the Federal Aviation Administration's Private Pilot written exam.

Ag. Business Management
AGB-230

Applications of economic and technological principles in developing skills in decision making for the agricultural firm. Included is skill development in analysis, management by objectives, budgeting, and supervision of an agricultural business.

Introduction to Sustainability
AGS-100

The goal of this class is to understand the origins, major concepts, and current issues of sustainability in local and global agriculture; to include economic, environmental and social aspects of sustainability in agroecosystems. We will evaluate the environmental impact of conventional agriculture and the solutions that sustainable agriculture provides. We will also examine the economic and social issues in agriculture and different pathways to increase profitability and social equity for agriculturists. You will come to understand the major role that sustainability plays in our lives and our environment.

Agriculture- Solving the Problems of the World
AGS-101

Introduction to the ethical, social, and economic issues involving commercial agriculture through understanding the significance of plant and animal science in everyday life and the careers required to ensure food security.

Introduction to Precision Agriculture
AGS-102

This course will give students an introduction to precision agriculture as it relates to field crop production. Students will learn about the agronomy and technology of variable rate technology. The course will highlight the economic and environmental benefits of precision agriculture, as well as examine components of it, including soil and crop variability, global positioning systems, machinery automation, spatial analysis, unoccupied aerial vehicles (UAVs), and satellite imagery. The course will bring together these elements to allow students to evaluate precision agriculture services. This is the foundation course in the Precision Agriculture Certificate.

Basic Tractor Operations and Safety
AGS-170

This course involves selection, maintenance, adjustment, and safe operation of tractors and implements used in agriculture.

Food Safety Practices and Management
AGS-200

Focuses on establishing agricultural practices as they relate to the production of farm products from a food safety standpoint. Covers the specific guidelines for some key agricultural commodities, regulating and monitoring food safety guidelines, introduction of regulations from governing entities such as LGMA and FSMA, writing standard operating procedures, employee training, and technologies to assist in production of safe food.

Food Safety in Facilities
AGS-220

Covers food safety issues and concerns in the manufacturing facility including such as: facility sanitation, recognizing potential hazards, analysis of problems in the cold chain, developing improved practices, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HAACP) principles, employee training, and the inspection process.

Environmental Effects on Food Safety
AGS-240

Potential environmental sources and transport mechanisms of food-borne pathogens. Students will learn how to make informed decisions about the potential effects of local site conditions on food safety. Covers the role of site conditions in pathogen transport such as: livestock proximity, wildlife behavior and habitat, rainfall and irrigation runoff, soil types, slope, aspect, climate, soil erosion and deposition by water and wind, flooding, vegetation and the behavior of pathogens in the environment.

Medical Terminology
AHE-101

This course is designed for individuals who are employed in human services and allied health agencies. Students will develop a working knowledge of words that relate to body systems, anatomical structures, medical processes and procedures, and a variety of disease conditions.

Nursing Continuing Education: Phlebotomy
AHE-113

Instruction on basic knowledge and skills to safely perform adult peripheral venipuncture for the purpose of drawing blood for diagnostic testing. Does NOT lead to a phlebotomy certification.

The Basics of Body Structure and Function
AHE-119

Orientation to basic body structure and functions as appropriate for the health care setting. Includes organization of the human body, body systems, and major organs. Also includes common disorders associated with each body system and what testing and analysis may be used to determine common disease.

Nursing Assistant
AHE-130

This course focuses on applying client self-care concepts and basic procedures relative to fundamentals of nursing, communication, nutrition, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, legal/ethical issues, and aging. The concepts and procedures are introduced in the classroom and practiced in the college laboratory before implementation under faculty supervision in a clinical setting. This course prepares the learner for taking the certification examination to become a certified nursing assistant.

Burnout to Breakthrough
AHE-150

This course focuses on applying strategies to manage and prevent burnout. Students will explore and discuss burnout concepts in order to identify what areas are contributing, or can contribute, to burnout. Additionally, we will explore areas of wellness in order to improve self-care as well as design a strategy to reach new goals. This course seeks to help you answer the question: How do I reignite my drive and choose a path of passion and inspiration again?

Phlebotomy for Medical Assistants
AHE-160

Students will gain skill development in the performance of a variety of blood collection methods using proper venipuncture techniques and standard precautions. Includes vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles and blood culture, and specimen collection on adults.

Human Pathophysiology
AHE-201

Pathophysiological processes in humans as a foundation for the understanding of alterations in health. Survey of major disease processes of the human body systems. Includes terminology, causes, signs, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and special considerations. Information: This course is a prerequisite for the concurrent Associate Degree/Baccalaureate Degree Nursing program through Arizona Western College and Northern Arizona University.

Healing Touch Level 1
AHE-264

Healing Touch Level 1 Healing Touch is an energy based therapeutic approach to healing. This therapy uses touch to influence the energy system, thus affecting physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health and healing. The goal of Healing Touch is to restore harmony and balance in the energy system.
