Law Enforcement Training Academy to graduate cadets from across Arizona


Low tuition costs helping Arizona Western College expand reach to agencies statewide

Yuma, AZ (February 14, 2020) – When Arizona Western College started its new full-time Law Enforcement Training Academy (LETA) last year, the hope was that it would be utilized by both local and out-of-town agencies.

The vision to expand the academy’s reach is already coming to fruition with its second cohort of cadets.

AWC music faculty and community members to perform together in March


Yuma, AZ (February 13, 2020) – Music lovers are invited to an upcoming concert in the foothills featuring AWC music faculty and community members.

The Sonoran Chamber Players: AWC Faculty and Friends performance will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, at Gloria de Cristo Lutheran Church, 11273 E. 40th St.

AWC and Cibola High School bands to perform during joint concert


Yuma, AZ (February 13, 2020) – The Arizona Western College Community Band will be teaming up with the Cibola High School band to put on a joint concert on Monday, March 9.

During the performance, AWC student Ivan Martinez will be performing the Concerto for Trumpet by Franz Joseph Haydn, as well as conducting his own composition, Blue Sky.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at Mary Elizabeth Post Auditorium, 400 W. 5th St.

All are welcome to attend as the event is free and open to the public.

AWC Music Department presents annual “Singing with the Masters” concerts


Yuma, AZ (February 13, 2020) – The Arizona Western College Chamber Singers and Yuma Chorale will be performing two upcoming “Singing with the Masters” concerts during the first weekend in March.

Music for this year's performance will include madrigals, renaissance, and baroque choral pieces by composers such as Orlando di Lasso, Henry Purcell, and George Frederick Handel. The choirs will also perform some contemporary choral pieces.

Students earn finalist title, top state award at research competition


Yuma, AZ (January 29, 2020) – Three students from Arizona Western College were recognized as Southwest Regional Finalists for their work on a Student Research League (SRL) competition project.

AWC students Misael Marquez, Cynthia Spence, and Wendy Szeto were named regional finalists during the American Mathematical Association for Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) annual conference in Milwaukee in November. They also earned first place in the competition for Arizona. Each team member earned a monetary award of $200, a plaque, and a certificate for their achievements.

AWC encourages campus community to participate in 2020 Census


Yuma, AZ (January 23, 2020) – Multiple efforts are currently underway at Arizona Western College to ensure that the campus community gets counted as part of the 2020 Census.  

The results of the census help to determine how federal dollars are distributed to states and communities. Getting a full and accurate count of Arizona citizens will play a vital role in securing funding for educational institutions. It could also help Arizona gain an additional seat in Congress.
