Exhibition of Liliana Cruz paintings on display at AWC San Luis Learning Center

January 23, 2018

San Luis, AZ (January 23, 2018) – Portraits by local artist Liliana Cruz are currently on display at the Arizona Western College San Luis Learning Center, 1340 N. 8th Avenue, San Luis, Ariz.

“The Paintings of Liliana Cruz” will be available for public viewing at the San Luis Learning Center until Feb. 9. The exhibition is free for the community to attend and is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cruz was born in Oaxaca, Mexico and has resided in San Luis, Ariz. since 2003. She graduated from San Luis High School in 2010 and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Northern Arizona University in 2015. While her work has previously been exhibited in shows at the San Luis Library and the Yuma Art Center, this is her first solo exhibition.

She first discovered a passion for color, form, and texture during her earliest experience with painting as a junior high school student. Her paintings are inspired by womyn who have persevered and overcome obstacles in pursuit of their goals. Cruz also celebrates the culture and heritage of these womyn through her art. The spelling of "womyn" is Cruz's feminist preference conveying independence from the word "men" or "man."
