AWC to offer extended hours starting Aug. 1

July 25, 2018

Staff to be available for students 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Yuma, AZ (July 25, 2018) – Arizona Western College will be extending their daily hours of operation by two hours beginning Wednesday, August 1.

 After being open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for decades, student-facing services at the AWC Yuma Campus will now be open until 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

“We’re making this switch as part of an ongoing effort to put students first and improve the college experience for our community,” said Bryan Doak, AWC Vice President for Student Services.

Many college students work full or part-time, and the extended hours are designed to make sure they get access to the assistance they need. This change was driven in part by recent work on the AWC Strategic Plan 2025, which includes a Student Experience Statement, developed with student, faculty and staff collaboration.

The Student Experience Statement commits to delivering an amazing student experience, characterized by:

  • A connected community within which students are encouraged, challenged and feel they belong;
  • Programs developed and aligned with employment opportunities;
  • A clear path to success and completion;
  • Flexible, accessible services and learning approaches;
  • Contemporary technology that supports and enhances the AWC experience.

The service extension is planned with no additional staffing or dollars and will be achieved by shifting hours from times of lower demand.

While the Yuma campus is the only location offering expanded hours Monday - Thursday, students will continue to find Friday office hours at AWC San Luis and AWC Somerton (9 a.m. – 1 p.m.) along with AWC Downtown (8 a.m. – 4 p.m.)
